Schönbusch Park, Aschaffenburg

#2 of 6 in Parks in Lower Franconia
Schönbusch is a historic park and Schloss near the town of Aschaffenburg in the Franconia region of Bavaria, Germany. The park was designed in the late 18th century as an English landscape garden for an Archbishop of Mainz. Various Neoclassical buildings, including the Schloss are scattered across the park. It is open to the public.GeographySchönbusch lies in a loop of the river Main, south-west of the town centre of Aschaffenburg in the Regierungsbezirk of Lower Franconia. The park's area is around 160 hectares. It is bordered in the north by the Bundesstrasse 26, across which is the Stadtteil (borough) of Aschaffenburg- and the port of Aschaffenburg. To the west lies Stockstadt am Main. To the east and south, Schönbusch borders, another borough of Aschaffenburg.HistoryThe area making up today's park was previously a deer park of the Archbishops of Mainz, whose secondary residence was at Aschaffenburg. In 1775, work began on transforming the deer park into an English landscape garden, based on the ideas of Wilhelm von Sickingen, minister to Archbishop Friedrich Karl Joseph von Erthal. It was thus one of the earliest examples of this style of park in southern Germany. A document from 1776 refers to the area as Schönbusch for the first time. It was formerly known as Nilkheimer Wäldchen.

  • A very beautiful landscape Park, which gives one the feeling to be in England. Many botanical features, which will probably not be the most visitors, but also technically offer what interested or gardeners. Some Visual axes include again cut free, but otherwise really a great Park

  • We went with the regional railway to Stockstadt. With the wheel's goes quickly to the castle's beautiful Bush. The route is not so tingly for cycling (especially with children), she constantly leads to much frequented roads. It is once in the Park, it is a total recovery. The beer garden keeps what he promises (short break, eat a snack, a drink) and the children can play just fine. If you like, can rent a boat - and then it says: ROWING :-) A great destination - and apparently also a popular wedding location - we have seen at least 3 weddings a day.

  • In the heart of the Germany, this is park in English style. You can do many things here, from wandering through the maze of bushes, to riding in the wooden bout, or you can just walk. Everything is so clean and well maintained, and I was surprised by greatness.
  • It is a huge historical park. Good for Jogging, boating, dinning, Beer Garden, high class restaurant. Toilet, historical buildings, kids park, huge place to park the cars, and a lot more.
  • My favourite park in Aschaffenburg , it was an old deer hunting park of Archbishops of Mainz. There are many activities for kids incl. the labyrinth maze, playground and games! Take a relaxing afternoon stroll through the ancient forests, along the stream and visit the oxen at the farm.
  • Beautiful place for walks around the lake. Unfortunately no lighting though.
  • Nice park near the city.
