  • The imposing Castle trohnt of Altena. One can well imagine the earlier meaning. The plant is in excellent condition, as here, a youth hostel and a museum are housed. However, the area also serves as a popular tourist destination and is thus quite well attended.

  • The castle is super in shot and the tour of the Museum is interesting and recommendable. I had already more than 3 times to him, but he's never boring. The youth hostel was also one of my first in the 70's, I can say nothing more but today. Unfortunately, the catering is lean to non-existent. But if one wanders up on foot or take the elevator you can get still the one or the other fast food in the ghost town.

  • There are to get two ways on this castle: either by walk or by an elevator experience. This costs however some money. Parking is free on Sundays and with the ticket (6 euro) you can also free in the German wire Museum. The Castle has an interesting Museum and declared the seat of the first youth hostel in the world very well. One should be as fit as many steep stairs climbed be :)

  • A medieval castle that became the world's first youth hostel. Amazing to see, very historical. Well worth making the drive to see!
  • Very nice place in very nice cosy village. Come to Altena on Sunday and go tho the Fleumarkt! The castle is another reason to come to this city. Even to wonder around the castle worth to come here.
  • What a great place to visit. Well worth taking the elevator up and going through all the exhibits. Very well done, informative and easy to follow tour. Great for kids as well with lots of armor and weapons towards the end of the tour. Would go again in a heartbeat.
  • Just okay honestly. Nothing spectacular but it is interesting to know that the world's first youth hostel is located in it!
  • Drove 1.5 hrs to visit, not really worth the trip.
