Aachener Rathaus, Aachen

4.4
Sitting next to the cathedral in Aachen's old town, the impressive was built in the early 14th century after taking over the ruined palace of Charlemagne. The building is emblematic of the civic freedom of the townspeople of Aachen. Its architectural foundations are Gothic, with Baroque elements added during the 17th and 18th centuries following the Great Fire of Aachen. On the north facade, you can see 50 statues of German rulers, 31 of whom were crowned in Aachen. Inside the building, check out the 19th-century Rethel frescoes in the Coronation Hall, as well as a collection of royal treasures and copies of the Imperial Crown Jewels. To avoid disappointment, check for state closure dates on the city's website before visiting. • City Hall has a distinctive facade. Worth seeing. Reminiscent of town halls in Flanders (Brussels, Ghent), façade could use a cleaning.

  • It was rainy and cold but the marktplatz remains tall and charming...
  • A lively and happening place for one and all, very close to Elisenbrunnen. City Town Hall and Aachen's Dom is just around. People visiting the area to spend time, for a cup of coffee or just for nothing. Plenty of shops and restaurants/eating place for all budgets. Wish to relax among crowd, one may visit this place and can spend 2-3 hours easily.
  • Review is only for the Christmas market that just opened on Friday November 24th. The market was not as large as expected but it was festive enough with the Christmas music. Tried the hot Gluwein and actually tasted not bad at all especially on a cold November morning.
  • Good city, You can find everything what you need, also it looks very nice. There’s a lot to do there. Go and check ;) You want be disappointed.
