Admire the impressive architectural mix of Gothic and Carolingian-Romanesque styles at Aachen Cathedral. Often referred to as the Imperial Cathedral, the church is the oldest of its kind in northern Europe. It served as the coronation site for German monarchs. You can tour the imperial throne and high altar of the mosaic-filled Palatine chapel. Then, head outside to see the dramatic Westwork, the building's western facade of staircases, niches, and bronze sculptures. Take a guided tour to see the throne and final resting place of Charlemagne. • Pomp and circumstance!!!! Abuse!! Historically a very important construction work for the city of Aachen. But you do have to love. The excess dripping from it.

  • Excellent guides and a lot of history, Charles the Great was crowned here and a lot of more German emperors. Beautiful location in the heart of this beautiful old city.
  • Do visit Aachen cathedral. The Charlemagne chapel is breathtaking and the Gothic part matches the oldest one in a unique way.
  • An amazing piece of history here in Aachen. Anyone who comes to Aachen will probably go to this cathedral, but they certainly won't be disappointed!
  • One of the greatest examples of what mankind could build. Perfect place for history lovers. Enjoy capital and palace of Charlemagne
  • I always visit Dom in every city in Germany. This one is as interesting as ones in other cities. It was beautiful to see it at the late evening.
  • From the outside it looks like any old cathedral with the facades being cleaned up in 2015. On the inside it is completely different from what I expected. The fairly small size, combined with the height, the light coming in from the top and the gold decorations everywhere give it a different feel. Tour guides in different languages are available.
