Old Town (Altstadt) Tbilisi, Tbilisi

#1 of 234 in Things to do in Georgia
Historic Walking Area Tourist Spot
At the heart of the capital, Old Town (Altstadt) Tbilisi boasts an eclectic mix of new and ancient buildings in a rainbow of colors, set against the looming bulk of Narikala Fortress. Devastated by an invading army charging north from Persia in 1795, much of the area was painstakingly rebuilt and restored in the mid-19th century while the country was under Russian rule (although many buildings and churches dating from the 5th century still exist here). Notice the carved wooden balconies on large houses that hang over the pavement as you stroll the narrow streets and alleyways in search of an ancient church or two. Other places of interest include the area's popular sulfur baths. • I really wanted to get into the baths, which glorified by Pushkin and Alexandre Dumas. We were able to go and see four baths, the rest were guests. We needed a separate room. Of those that watched chose Bathhouses No. 5 suite. I was 14 years old and a son with her husband. Time was detained for half an hour, when guests came, we asked whether you will retract, certainly got the answer. girl gone and made a couple of empty bottles and ALL. I paid for the foam and skrabovyj massages for each family member. It was obeshhenno that massages do on 20 minutes. My husband and son together Uncle did 12 minutes. My question is why so fast response but qualitatively. in sulfuric acid bath moved dirt and flakes. We were told that the bath is filled with sources-complete nonsense when we framed the bucket to the faucet-flowed the same dirty water as the bath-as in the fountain was recycling. such dirty saunas I haven't seen ever ... the concept of hygiene here is completely missing. In doing so, we paid for the lease of 300 chest-3:00, for the Georgians is a very large sum.

  • Tbilisi is a beautiful city, and the old city are generally good. There you can stroll endlessly. At each step of the temples, old streets. There are many places where you can just sit back, drink some water.

  • Excellent facilities and service. The hotel is one of the most modern Mercure i have seen to date (compared with over 20 visited is Europe) The service and breakfast is excellent. The hotel also has a very good sky bar, with nice views during the day light hours and very good love music during the evening. The drinks as extras are also very well priced. The staff were attentive and friendly, with excellent room amenities. The wifi however was terrible and patchy. Really the only thing that let it down. However, I would still strongly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the city.
  • Very nicely located hotel. Perfect rooftop bar and excellent service.
  • Staff are helpful and friendly, their English language is not good enough but you can live with it. Breakfast could be better and a better coordination between different sections of the hotel is a task to do for the manager.
  • We stayed here 6 day and 6 night the breakfast was excellent and i enjoyed it !the personnel was so kind and polite and mostly helpful !i just shocked when i saw my fridge didnt have anything in it and they said the fridge is free to use and no money on it ! The lobby was so soft and and the sofas were comfortable. I enjoyed my staying at mercure hotel and also tbilisi! P.s :I must remind the personnel dont know much english but its ok you can handle your job;)
  • Great location in Old Town. Nice new rooms. Comfortable beds. Good breakfast. Good fitness room.

Where to stay in Tbilisi

Strung out alongside the Mtkvari River, Tbilisi's historical core and bustling city center offers an array of accommodation options. Choose the fortress hill, the more northern residential districts, or a main street in the center of the action. Large international chain hotels offer luxury options, complete with fine dining, air conditioning, and more. However, you can also choose from more economical, mid-level options located around Rustaveli Avenue and Tbilisi's old town. For the lowest cost, consider one of the ubiquitous hostels.
