Old Town (Altstadt) Tbilisi, Tbilisi

(1,700+ reviews on the web)
Historic Walking Area
At the heart of the capital, Old Town (Altstadt) Tbilisi boasts an eclectic mix of new and ancient buildings in a rainbow of colors, set against the looming bulk of Narikala Fortress. Devastated by an invading army charging north from Persia in 1795, much of the area was painstakingly rebuilt and restored in the mid-19th century while the country was under Russian rule (although many buildings and churches dating from the 5th century still exist here). Notice the carved wooden balconies on large houses that hang over the pavement as you stroll the narrow streets and alleyways in search of an ancient church or two. Other places of interest include the area's popular sulfur baths. • In Tbilisi, we stayed with friends, living in the old part of the city. Narrow streets, old houses. I was amazed that the drivers manage to pass on a very narrow streets, where many cars parked. Here you can carry out extreme driving courses. There are many cafes, gift shops, churches. Most of all, I was pleasantly surprised to hospitality and kindness of people. Strolling with his wife on the Maidan in search of currency exchanger. Asked the first random passerby. He showed us where are exchange bureaux and advised it is one where the course was more profitable.

  • Staff are helpful and friendly, their English language is not good enough but you can live with it. Breakfast could be better and a better coordination between different sections of the hotel is a task to do for the manager.
  • We stayed here 6 day and 6 night the breakfast was excellent and i enjoyed it !the personnel was so kind and polite and mostly helpful !i just shocked when i saw my fridge didnt have anything in it and they said the fridge is free to use and no money on it ! The lobby was so soft and and the sofas were comfortable. I enjoyed my staying at mercure hotel and also tbilisi! P.s :I must remind the personnel dont know much english but its ok you can handle your job;)

  • All new. Good food. Excellent service.
  • This is a 4 star hotel but I think it deserves to be a 5 star! Super clean and very new.
