Old Town (Altstadt) Tbilisi, Tbilisi

(4.7/5 based on 1,700+ reviews on the web)
At the heart of the capital, Old Town (Altstadt) Tbilisi boasts an eclectic mix of new and ancient buildings in a rainbow of colors, set against the looming bulk of Narikala Fortress. Devastated by an invading army charging north from Persia in 1795, much of the area was painstakingly rebuilt and restored in the mid-19th century while the country was under Russian rule (although many buildings and churches dating from the 5th century still exist here). Notice the carved wooden balconies on large houses that hang over the pavement as you stroll the narrow streets and alleyways in search of an ancient church or two. Other places of interest include the area's popular sulfur baths. • Spent half a day wandering the streets of the old town. Very vivid and contrast. You can go for any lively landscaped Street, perpendicular to the street and stumble upon the surface of architecture shikarnejshuju Church, with strange "massonskimi" signs and fallen tombstones, then collapsed again and out into the street with restaurants, each of which is ready to offer you hospitably its doors. You can climb to the fortress and take a look at the city from a bird's-eye view, and you can embark on a leisurely journey through the wine and gift shops, which are here in abundance. In the old town, everyone will find something to their liking. If you prove to be a couple of hours of free time in Tbilisi, go back without hesitation
