Funicular, Tbilisi

4.4
#1 of 7 in Transportation in Georgia
Built as an attraction and to enable people to take in the wide vista atop the Mtatsminda plateau, Funicular opened in 1905. This steep railway climbs above the city, allowing 360-degree views through the all-glass exterior. You'll appreciate the new carriages installed in 2012 that replaced older, more rickety cars. At the top, take in a view of the city, visit the restaurant complex, and head up to the amusement park that dominates the plateau for fun and adventure. Our Tbilisi trip itinerary planning site makes visiting Funicular and other Tbilisi attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • The best place to see Tbilisi. Advise podnjatsa evening. Seen from the height of Tbilisi in daylight and in a few minutes the lights of the night Tbilisi. Not transmitted beauty.

  • The place has an amazing view of the city you should also try one of the restaurant complex there very nice i recommended  more »
  • If you were raised on Victoria Peak on the boat or enjoy the Baku cable, local glass funicular you nothing to amaze. In the high season in the sweltering glass wagons stuffed many people both in public transport during peak hours-when the interesting species along the path is not nahvataeshsja. Makes a stop at the Pantheon, but there rarely goes. Travel on special plastic card (subway map and the lift will not work) costing 2 gel plus one way ticket 2.5 gel. Free travel for children up to 5 years. Just an interesting transport to the top of Mount Mtatsminda.

  • Nice view, good tasty food. Could give 5 stars but have to take one away because of price of the local vine. I think it is a bit expensive. I would expect this in none vine making countries. But definitely not in Georgia with best vine making traditions. Price of one glass of vine at restaurant equals price of 2 liters excellent house vine at the market. Or price of one bottle of vine at the vine shop on street.
  • At the lower floor, an excellent local diner with atmosphere... great food: try the dumplings and the bean stew! Inexpensive beer... and don't hesitate to climb to the lounge bar for some chacha to start or to finish...
  • The best place in the city 🌃Fantastic and romantic place. Out of restaurant a lot of tourists but beautiful views from the top will give to you maximum satisfaction! Old and high level restaurant must be visited!
  • Came at 9:30, the park was not very well lit, couldn't reach the tourist path to go down, so took the navicular instead. Only the view is nice
  • This complex has few restaurants. For the best service and view you should go to the 2d floor. Service is great and food is amazing. Very recommended.

Where to stay in Tbilisi

Strung out alongside the Mtkvari River, Tbilisi's historical core and bustling city center offers an array of accommodation options. Choose the fortress hill, the more northern residential districts, or a main street in the center of the action. Large international chain hotels offer luxury options, complete with fine dining, air conditioning, and more. However, you can also choose from more economical, mid-level options located around Rustaveli Avenue and Tbilisi's old town. For the lowest cost, consider one of the ubiquitous hostels.
