New Athos Simoneau-Kananitsky Monastery, New Athos
(4.5/5 based on 300+ reviews on the web)
Your first glimpse of New Athos Simoneau-Kananitsky Monastery encompasses shining golden domes rising above the surrounding forest, which runs down to the sea. Construction began in 1875; the Russian Orthodox monks who lived there built the complex. The monastery, an enclosed rectangle, surrounds the church of St. Pantaleon and the 50 m (164 ft) bell tower, which still is active today. Enter the church to view frescoed walls painted in the early 20th century, colored with gold, blues, reds, and white depicting scenes from the Bible. Walk the tiled floor and view ornate metalwork and fixtures in this large space that, during the Soviet era, was used as a hospital, storage space, tourist base, and museum. • Went a couple of Sukhumi by bus from Pilgrim goal. In the monastery and indeed the grace of God. The next trip to Abkhazia will try to settle closer to the monastery, once a little.

  • To the monastery by car and can be accessed, but almost all prefer to walk on the Rocky and steep trail. The young man will do for 10 minutes, older people need twice the time. Inside a very beautiful painting, and with mountains with breathtaking views. In the monastery its dress code: no bare feet or bare head women on the site give out scarves and the like skirts (men too).

  • Novo-Afonsky Simon canonite monastery has an interesting history. Founded in 1875, the year was closed by the Soviet authorities in the year 1924, returned to believers in 1994 g. Adler came from. Left the car parked and walked up to the monastery. On the road a lot of tents with various souvenirs. Through 10 minutes we have its walls. Very beautiful monastery, around Palma, this looks wonderful! Inside the Temple of Byzantine-style frescoes, look wonderful. The monastery stands on a hill, so the species around the excellent, sea fortress. Something certainly should forge, and in general the monastery in good shape.
