#1 of 7 in Things to do in Mtskheta
Situated at the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers, World Heritage Site Jvari Church sits alone atop a desolate, windswept mountaintop. A Georgian Orthodox monastery founded in the 6th century, the site is where St. Nino converted King Miriam to Christianity (according to tradition) and erected a cross on an existing pagan temple. The current church is believed to have been built between 590 and 605 CE. Explore this site to get a sense of the religious history of the nation. Attempt to read the inscription on the facade, which is said to date the structure by naming the principle builders involved in the construction. Many times I was in Georgia, and not visiting the Jvari pass, it seemed that was never really. Every time seeing these unique species themselves pop up a textbook, the well-known lines from "Mtsyri" Lermontov. The walls of the monastery you can sit, meditate, and enjoy the beautiful view of merging Kura (Mtkvari and Aragvi inflows left her). Up to Jvari monastery can be reached in different ways. In his student years, and then in the honeymoon we came by bus from the metro stop at the foot of the Didube Phillips mountains, and further onwards and upwards minutes 30-40. Recent years can afford a taxi from Tbilisi, the usual fee from Tbilisi in recent years about 50 lari given waiting time (no cabbie would not rush back and gave the time as much as you want). And now in Tbilisi on each tourist street cars galore, eager to drive, for any purpose. The proposal clearly exceeds the demand. This time we visited the Jvari pass in combination with travel on the Georgian military road along Aragvi to kazbegi and back. As tourists in recent years in Georgia grew to many times, ...

To go to the temple for the sake of appearance, which opens from the top: Mtskheta and merging of two rivers Kura and Aragvi. Rode from Mtskheta alone for a short time, but there is a problem with pointers, as well as throughout Georgia. Need a Navigator. Tip: have been in Mtskheta twice. Once on the road from Tbilisi and another on the way from Batumi. Enter from Georgian capital more focused booth with staff, written: 2 gel (car parking costs at a special parking lot, no time limit). From the Batumi accidentally the territory against a toy town followed by machine, and later for the US climbed metal posts, which do not go round. Departure-or buy plastic for 5 gel, or wait for vyezzhajushhej machines (Oh how that could happen soon). We are fortunate to have a half an hour later departed from the main gate followed by a machine, but the risk is not so suggest, moreover, that the car is not razezdishsja on the pavement.
