Jvari Church, Mtskheta

(4.8/5 based on 460+ reviews on the web)
Situated at the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers, World Heritage Site Jvari Church sits alone atop a desolate, windswept mountaintop. A Georgian Orthodox monastery founded in the 6th century, the site is where St. Nino converted King Miriam to Christianity (according to tradition) and erected a cross on an existing pagan temple. The current church is believed to have been built between 590 and 605 CE. Explore this site to get a sense of the religious history of the nation. Attempt to read the inscription on the facade, which is said to date the structure by naming the principle builders involved in the construction. • Come to druvnjuju capital and do not climb in this monastery is a crime. We arrived by taxi, 15 lari (back and forth). That's roughly $15.99 The taxi driver takes you to the mountain, waiting for 30-40 minutes and spskaet back. You can safely seek fellow travelers and divide this sum, as the price per car. We are not traded. May carry and cheaper. View from the monastery is fascinating. 30 minutes is not that they enjoy.

  • The temple literally "buzzing" energy, if you stand at a certain location under the dome-the almost "p'janeesh'" from its impact. The place is very "special". The temple has fantastic views of the Mtskheta and nearby Valley. Place an extraordinary, definitely want to go back there.
