Jvari Church, Mtskheta

(4.8/5 based on 460+ reviews on the web)
Situated at the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers, World Heritage Site Jvari Church sits alone atop a desolate, windswept mountaintop. A Georgian Orthodox monastery founded in the 6th century, the site is where St. Nino converted King Miriam to Christianity (according to tradition) and erected a cross on an existing pagan temple. The current church is believed to have been built between 590 and 605 CE. Explore this site to get a sense of the religious history of the nation. Attempt to read the inscription on the facade, which is said to date the structure by naming the principle builders involved in the construction. • Great monastery at the top of a mountain. Completely isolated, the Summit also allows to admire wonderful landscapes. The most remote mountains and high pus were still covered in snow, even embellishing the view. The visit of the monastery is free (apart from the beggars at the entrance) and parking is easy.

  • It is a small church on the world heritage site city Mtskheta. Like should I drop you off at is in the city of Mtskheta after marshrutka slightly away from the churches, if you're walking forward. Barker has a taxi in the city is pretty expensive price. Fewer people in personal encounters in information time recruiting people, but will arrange quite difficult,. Standing quietly and church was mysterious.
