  • A very peaceful place. You can wander through the ruins and to reflect on the great. But! This same Kakheti! And without thinking about the fault cannot be. It's a whole Academy, where he studied Shota Rustaveli. And still here doing the best wine, and still makes the region)))

  • Complex in the middle of a Zypressenhains. Interesting primarily because the ruins - the Church itself is in more frugal and not extraordinary, the buildings are frills very much more interesting. Worth a visit!

  • Here you go especially if you have a guided tour in Kakheti. The complex is, like most temples on the mountain, the view is stunning. The territory remained the winepress, like many centuries ago, the guide can tell in detail about the technology of wine-making. Here is a very quiet and peaceful. And Yes, here in Academy ruins which studied Shota Rustavelli, but from the historical buildings almost nothing left, only walls.

  • Iqalto (Georgian: იყალთო) is a village about 10 km west of the town Telavi in the Kakheti region of Eastern Georgia. It is mostly known for its monastery complex and the Ikalto Academy. The Ikalto monastery was founded by Saint Zenon, one of the 13 Syrian Fathers, in the late 6th century. It was known as one of the most significant cultural-scholastic centres of Georgia. An academy was founded at the monastery during king David the Builder by Arsen Ikaltoeli (Ikaltoeli meaning from Ikalto) in the early 12th century. The Academy of Ikalto trained its students in theology, rhetoric, astronomy, philosophy, geography, geometry chanting but also more practical skills such as pottery making, metal work, viticulture and wine making and pharmacology. According to a legend the famous 12th century Georgian poet Shota Rustaveli studied there. There are three churches on the monastery grounds – Khvtaeba, Kvelatsminda and Sameba. The main church, Khvtaeba (Holy Spirit), was built in the 8th–9th century on the site of an older church (in which Saint Zenon had been buried). In 1616 the Persian invaders led by Shah Abbas I set the Ikalto Academy on fire and it ceased to exist.
  • A beautiful restored monastery with a historic ancient school ruins attached with the property.
  • Beautifully restored church and surrounds. I just love the old wineries attached to these places. It was raining when we visited so it gave everything a shiny appearance. Great stop.
  • This is a great place with a big and interesting history.
  • Anciant academy and monastery
