Stalin House and Museum, Gori

3.3
#3 of 30 in Museums in Georgia
Dedicated to the life of Joseph Stalin, Stalin House and Museum charts his life and history, from his birth in a small mud-brick house until his death in 1953. The museum sits on the site of his childhood home--in fact, it contains the small house where he was born under a specially built awning. Presenting a balanced account of his rise to power, the museum has a small room dedicated to political repression during Stalin's regime. Enter the first hall upstairs to learn about Stalin's childhood and to read some of his poetry. Learn about the ruler's relationship with Lenin, which ran from friendship and loyalty to Lenin's public criticism of Stalin's tactics. View a copy of Stalin's death mask, a reconstruction of his office in the Kremlin, and his bulletproof, personal train carriage. The museum offers guided tours in English, German, and French. A visit to Stalin House and Museum represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Gori travel route planning app to plot your vacation.

  • The cost of visiting the Museum-10 gel. Cost of attendance-5 gel. Total-15 gel, for 45-minute excursions with "Guide". "Guide" is nothing new (interesting) not only tells the common to all known information. And in tempo waltz hold via wagon and dosvidanija. The argument of "Guide", you need faster because there will be the next group of tourists, said on ... Red price of such trips-1 gel (25 RUS RUB)!

  • Getting acquainted with Tbilisi could not not go in such a famous place. Arrived from Tbilisi for an hour on a minibus for 3 gel. The bus stopped right outside the Museum. Personally, I was surprised by an enormous number of visitors in the Museum. A lot of foreigners-group of Chinese, Iranians, Turks, Europeans, all deem it necessary to visit the Museum. Personally, my impression-as if I was in that era in 30-50-IES when this museum was organized. Everything remained unchanged-exhibits, information presentation, ideology. The cult of Stalin. They are able to survive in the most difficult times, when exposing this cult, and destroyed everything associated with it. Now this is a huge commercial success. A place where all remained at the level of 50-h godov-no longer exists.

  • A lot of people mentioned the museum is somehow one-sided about Stalin. But there really is a room(1 st floor, to the right of the stairs) exhibiting the history of large cleaning and massacre launched by Stalin. Guide will not lead people to the room, but tourist can check it by yourselves. I think it's fully understandable that people from such a small town like Gori still enjoy the fact that a world-level politician was born and raised here. At least, they don't need to feel sorry about it.
  • The museum has a really nice collection. I have talked with couple of local people about his role and how locals percieve him and everyone was telling that young people do not like him while older generation adore him and all city feels kinda proud that he is from Gori. If you are around this place is must-be-seen point
  • I was a bit underwhelmed by the place. Enormous number of photographs of Stalin looking important, meeting important people and shaking hands. There is only a small amount of English translation, but enough to get the one-sided gist of the place.
  • Interesting collection of photographs. Wish there was more English.
  • I really enjoyed visiting the museum and to learn much more about the prominent man of history.
