Maraa Grotto, Tahiti
Categories: Caves, Nature & Parks
Feel the cool air of Maraa Grotto, a small cave hidden in the thick forests. Take a dip in the small pond that lies at the cave's entrance, or pack a picnic to enjoy in the lush vegetation that surrounds its entrance. While easily accessible from the road, the cave has a secluded and evocative atmosphere, encouraging visitors to imagine the geological and ecological history of the island. Story has it that Impressionist painter Paul Gauguin enjoyed the waters here, so those interested in his work will be particularly appreciative of the natural features and atmosphere that inspired his later pieces. This was a sop on our Unique Tour of Tahiti. Interesting but nothing special. If you are passing by do stop and view the grotto. But do not drive there simply for the attraction.

So we save a lot of money. The cave is very nice and there is more to see in the area, there is a trail that connects several caves. The main one is huge and deep with a lake in which we saw people boat and swimming (is assumed the qu that cannot be made). It was worth it to stop 15 minutes out of the Grotto.show original
