Maraa Grotto, Tahiti

(3.8/5 based on 65+ reviews on the web)
Feel the cool air of Maraa Grotto, a small cave hidden in the thick forests. Take a dip in the small pond that lies at the cave's entrance, or pack a picnic to enjoy in the lush vegetation that surrounds its entrance. While easily accessible from the road, the cave has a secluded and evocative atmosphere, encouraging visitors to imagine the geological and ecological history of the island. Story has it that Impressionist painter Paul Gauguin enjoyed the waters here, so those interested in his work will be particularly appreciative of the natural features and atmosphere that inspired his later pieces. • Between the almost ' island and Taravao, a stop half way up the West Coast to visit the caves of Maraa (between Papara and Paea). In a well shaded green, you can access after 50 m from the road a cave really very big which is filled with water like a small lake. We then feel the coolness of this water never exposed to sunlight transparent and crystalline. It's quite nice, but be careful to not arrive at the same time that a because of tourists, otherwise we perceive more peace!

  • Very nice caves... at the edge of the main road circling the island. The visit is fast because you can see the caves from the outside
