Mt. Teurafaatiu, Maupiti Island

4.9
#3 of 6 in Things to do in Maupiti Island
Take the challenging hike up Mt. Teurafaatiu for extensive, uninterrupted views of Maupiti and the surrounding islands of French Polynesia. With an elevation of 372 m (1,220 ft), the peak is the highest on the island, and provides visitors with clear sights of the lagoon and the reef as they enjoy a well-earned rest. You will reach the first viewpoint after around ten minutes, giving you the chance to head back down or carry on up to the top depending on your hiking experience and weather conditions. The track gets steep in places, and visitors must be prepared for rock scrambling and rope sections. You won't need a guide for this well-posted trail, but do note that you should not attempt the hike in wet conditions as the ground is slippery and dangerous. Plan to visit Mt. • Too bad! This - even if a little hard - sublime hike became impossible. The attached pictures explain without need to comment why the owners come to close the path. While the hike requires to go with water, but the bottles empty so are so heavy that it is impossible to take down them to the dustbins of the village?

  • excellent course, view 360 ° if the quite difficult peak with the strings. It should be planned (for the last string, a longer, because I had difficulties to catch him, it took me to get on the edge of the feet and at this height, this isn't very reassuring, the same thing down, I let me drag along) e the word. not recommended for children or for people who have Vertigo, it's still impressive, but it is fabulous on arrival.

  • Great point of view but that is earned. For the less sporty, a first level to about 1/3 of the Summit, quite easily accessible offering a superb view. For the more sports, don't hesitate to climb to the top... and the reward is at the height of the effort. A view on almost all of the lagoon of Maupiti. But beware, the last part of the climb is the most delicate and request a good form physics.
