Mt. Teurafaatiu, Maupiti Island
(5/5 based on 40+ reviews on the web)
Take the challenging hike up Mt. Teurafaatiu for extensive, uninterrupted views of Maupiti and the surrounding islands of French Polynesia. With an elevation of 372 m (1,220 ft), the peak is the highest on the island, and provides visitors with clear sights of the lagoon and the reef as they enjoy a well-earned rest. You will reach the first viewpoint after around ten minutes, giving you the chance to head back down or carry on up to the top depending on your hiking experience and weather conditions. The track gets steep in places, and visitors must be prepared for rock scrambling and rope sections. You won't need a guide for this well-posted trail, but do note that you should not attempt the hike in wet conditions as the ground is slippery and dangerous. Mt. Teurafaatiu is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our international travel planner, Maupiti Island Edition.

  • When you are on the main road of the island, you leave the restaurant the tarone on your right and 100 m further you have a market in concrete on the left that introduces you to the beginning of the climb, hike which lasts 1 h 15 max to go up, and upward to be careful because to get to the top of the strings are put in place to help climb the last meters is not suitable for children, to happen l views breathtaking, really to do.

  • I advise you to leave early, ideally around 7:30 / 8: 00 because it warms quickly but arrived at the top after 1: 00 / 1:30 mounted depending on your view on Maupiti pace is incredible and worth a visit! An almost 360 panorama which is breathtaking! Remember to take a lot of water! No need to be very athletic, just motivated!

  • truly an unforgettable view but not at 360 degrees ... is a bit hard to climb over. parts of it are quite vertically where you have to help each other with ropes already ... but the view will reward you for everything ...
