4.4/5 based on 60+ reviews on the web
Take an eerie and mysterious tour of Camp De La Transportation, once the largest prison in French Guiana. Take the guided tour and learn about how convicts arrived by the boatful in 20 day trips across the Atlantic during the 19th century, and explore the cell rumored to belong to Henri Charrière. You can still find the infamous convicted felon's nickname "Papillon" inscribed on the wall. Be aware that while some tours are conducted in English, a lot of the staff speak little of the language. • Interesting to better understand the history of the penal colony in French Guiana. We realize some people suffer in these tiny cells.

  • night during our late July weekend tour. Very nice experience, a guide who lives the story he tells. The small most of the visit with a little refreshment during the visit, and a small cocktail party at the end of the visit.
