Zoo de Guyane, Macouria
(4.2/5 based on 140 reviews on the web)
Get up close to endangered wildlife in captivity at Zoo de Guyane, located within authentic Guyanese jungle. Recognized as the only zoo in Guyana, the institution shelters over 70 exotic (and mostly endangered) species, including pumas, jaguars, ocelots, anacondas, macaws, and iguanas. Trails through the jungle lead over suspended trees and among tall, shady canopies. The zoo enjoys a reputation for its highly responsible approach, though visitors who find the sight of animals in captivity upsetting should approach with caution. • Visit well organized in a pleasant and shady. A make by taking the time to observe some discreet animals.

  • After the visit of the Botanical Garden in the morning, visit of the zoo on the run. The species present are virtually all Guyanese, of course very protected as endangered. The place is very well protected; with the drought that has raged here for some time, the animals appear tired and know to hide. Beautiful natural environment, shelters along the way. My preference will go to the jaguar in the Caymans, the monkey, and I forget. I was invited, but I found the entrance fee a bit expensive. Recommend.

  • Very friendly Zoo in nature and constantly improving. Animals of Guyana which allows to discover a wide range of local wildlife that would otherwise be "invisible". A course in the trees makes the visit and a small play park for kids complete the visit. Plus, enter the Aviary in the middle of dozens of multicolored birds is really very nice! The ballad in the forest part sometimes surprises (monkeys, snakes, tarantulas) a true happiness! The less, despite the publicity, very very few visible snakes (anaconda, a few boas) last minute! Two tortoises alligator (not so local) made their entry to the zoo!

  • Great little zoo, with a nice variety of local fauna, including tapirs, toucans, caymans, capybara, ocelot, and many many more. The capuchin monkeys were particularly entertaining. Plan to spend around 90mn.
  • Very exotic. You can go all year and never see the same thing. The course in the forest is very pleasant. A very nice experience.

  • They have nothing to do here. A reserve rather but not a zoo like that! These animals do not deserve to be imprisoned so all their life to distract poor tourists.
