Kourou Space Centre (Centre Spatial Guyanais), Kourou
(4.5/5 based on 180 reviews on the web)
See where satellites launch into outer space with a tour of Kourou Space Centre (Centre Spatial Guyanais). In 1964, the French government chose this uninhabited territory--close to the equator and protected from tropical storms and earthquakes--as a base from which to send its satellites into the cosmos. Take the highly informative three-hour bus tour of the launch pads and control room where the launching is programmed. Note the tour is usually in French, but the guides will answer all your questions in English. Amenities include a gift shop. Check the website for the launch schedule and reserve a place at one of the center's observation points (or watch with the locals from one of Kourou's beaches). • We had the chance to attend has a shot of Ariane 5 and after a few day we did the tour of the CSG. The visit is done with 2 guides and if address all because the explanations are clear even if you are not a specialist.
