Fort Saint-André, Villeneuve-les-Avignon
Categories: Architectural Buildings, Tourist Spots
Fort Saint-André is a 13th-century fortified castle on a rocky outcrop above the Rhône River. The castle served as a formidable fortress, as well as a symbol of French power. Explore the classic medieval castle gatehouse, where two imposing battlement-topped round towers flank the gate. Head up to the top of the ramparts for a view of the villages and the surrounding countryside. This well-preserved fortress is on the official list of French historic monuments. A visit to Fort Saint-André represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Villeneuve-les-Avignon tourist route planner to plot your vacation.

Walk in the gardens, damage in the fall, not a lot of flowers, we will return in the spring to see the Wisteria and roses. Very nice friendly staff. Sofas are installed in the gardens to enjoy this peaceful location. I recommend the visit.show original
Nice reconstruction and some nice unreconstructed areas. Beautiful views of the surrounding area. Wonderful for a visit on a sunny day.
Atmospheric fortress overlooking the city of Avignon. Could do with better interpretive materials to help explore but still a worthwhile visit. The paths are mainly unpaved so wear decent walking shoes.
The Fort is a nice visit; I prefer it to the Abbey.
