The Trianons & The Hamlet, Versailles

Architectural Building · Hidden Gem · Castle
Take a peek into Marie Antoinette’s favorite places to get away from the pomp of Versailles at The Trianons & The Hamlet. Walk across the gardens or ride the petit train to reach the Grand Trianon decked out in pink marble. The Petit Trianon and the surrounding park reflect the queen's eclectic, free-thinking nature through their rural, rustic surroundings. Inside The Petit Trianon, see her modest bedchamber and simple furnishings. At Le Hameau (Hamlet), survey the ill-fated queen's retreat overlooking Grand Trianon Lake, where the environment stands in stark contrast to the formal gardens at Versailles. • For me Trianons' garden was much more interesting than Versailles' park. Human sized and natural with small meandering paths instead of geometrical vast boulevards of Versailles. Tiny little details.....  more »
  • It is the queen's palace and very well designed. Les crowded so you can enjoy your time better. The garden is really nice, specially in good weather.  more »
  • The Grande Trianon was a stunning “little” house that is worth visiting while at the Palace of Versailles. You can walk there, rent a golf cart, rent a Segway, even run there if you choose. This...  more »
  • Nice visit, great garden
  • Loved this "little" house but the opulence and inequalities it shows are shocking
  • Make the extra effort to visit! In some ways I preferred this to the Versailles Palace because it’s quieter and more serene. Yes the main Palace is more grand, but the glut of tourists and intense queue to enter detracted from the experience. Admission: bought the full Versailles ticket reservation including Trianon (Marie Antoinette estates), which open at 12pm. Fairly short wait to get inside at 1pm when I arrived. You can walk here through the Versailles gardens, perhaps 20-30 mins depending on your route. There is also a rail car but you have to pay a small fee
  • Must go to walk in the steps of Marie antoinette, if you get the time walk the 10 km around the artifical lakes. Stop for wine or tea at la flottille. Easy parking from boulevard de la reine. Enjoy
  • Ok palace to visit, maybe too far from Versailles walking if you don't pay for the mini train
