Parc du Domaine de Madame Élisabeth, Versailles

Categories: Nature & Parks
Inspirock Rating:
4.6/5 based on 70+ reviews on the web
Louis XVI bought Parc du Domaine de Madame Élisabeth for his younger sister, Elizabeth, in 1783, as a place where she and others could take a break from life at court. But that ended in 1789 with the French Revolution. Renovated several times over the years, the site now consists of a rectangular main building with two floors flanked by two pavilions. Of the original house, only three rooms in the apartment of Madame Elizabeth remain intact--ironically, rooms she never used because she slept every night at the castle. On the grounds, you will find an orangery as well as some magnificent gardens. • Beautiful park with a variety of trees a little d maintenance would not hurt but this place is relaxing and allows to walk in the quiet with good prospects on the remains. L orangeraie offers even more intimate space.

  • It is very nice to find the calm and the beauty of this place, which is intimate if you compare it to the Park of the Castle. A regret however: Versailles is really the symbol of French culture: we could not find a proofreader for full of misspellings, explanatory panels! It's really shocking!

  • The park and house are very lovely & complete a day of visits in Versailles. I highly recommend this place. You can easily imagine the lives of ladies back in Louis XVI & Marie-Antoinette's days ! The domain is located on the avenue in front of the Palace; you can walk there (about 10/15 min) or take the 171 bus in front of the Palace and it's the 3 bus stop (about 3/5 min). One piece of advice: visit the website in order to know the opening days .
  • Noisy. But nice, ideal with children.
