Chateau de Bizy, Vernon

#2 of 8 in Things to do in Vernon
Castle Tourist Spot
At the gates of the city of Vernon, Chateau de Bizy offers you the pleasure of discovering the charm of this grand park. Stroll the grounds and admire the numerous sculpted fountains, including Neptune fountain, the water staircase, the fountain Gribouille, the sea horse fountain, and more. There are also stables that were built in 1741. All of this grandeur has earned the site the nickname of "Versailles of Normandy."

As you visit, keep in mind that the property has belonged to Louis XV, the Duke of Penthièvre, the last King of the French, and others. Refined interiors have memories of the First Empire, united by the descendants of the brothers Bonaparte and Marshal Suchet Dukes of Albufera. This parentage is still resident and owner of the castle. Use our Vernon trip generator to arrange your visit to Chateau de Bizy and other attractions in Vernon.

  • Our visit took place in a dreary, and rainy weather which has strengthened the impression of melancholy that emanates from the place. The place was almost deserted and seemed almost to abandonment, only certain parts of the park were maintained. However, the trees are beautiful, it's a romantic place that lends to the reverie. We can easily think outside the box and enjoy nature (we have crossed the path of a DOE not far from the Castle). However, the given plan is very badly designed and little detailed to me, which is a pity, because we certainly have not benefited from this site in an optimal way. A remake of a sunny day.

  • Family walk in the gardens of trees several times centenarians. Splendid! Visit of the Castle very well but a little rushed due to a rental for a wedding. But nothing traumatic. Very beautiful objects and passionate guides! We will return with pleasure.

  • We had a lot of fun on our visit. It was a tour option for the cruise we were on. The grounds are beautiful. You can only tour the lower level of the Chateau, as it is still a private residence. As part of the the tour we were on we sampled cidre and cheeses from the region, so if you can find a tour that offers this type of thing, go on it. Would love to come back in spring/summer to see the gardens.
  • A nice little gem
  • Attractive building and fountains, good tour
  • Hello ! my wife and I visited this chateau on Thursday 30th October 2014, we were the first guests to arrive at 10 a.m. A woman, about 40- 50 years old with blond hair and her college from Africa or the Carribean met us in the reception. We said "bonjour" in a nice way and had no response from the 50 years old guide. She said "What do you want ?"...... in an arrogant and rather hostile way. We said nice and calmly that we wanted to see the chateau. The Carribean woman asked if we needed a guide. My wife said cheerfully "No, we can look for ourselves". The blond replied dead serious and arrogant "Well. then you will not see the chateau, you can go and see the garden". I got a bit annoyed and put the money on the table for guide and chateau saying back: "Well where is the guide ?" The Carribean woman saved the situation by cheerfully saying "Here, I will be your guide !" None of them had any name signs on them, the last mentioned gave us a great guiding tour through the chateau, fantastic lady. Humor, intelligent, charm and gentle. The blonde was the extreme opposite. We have not met such a hostile and arrogant tourist guide for years travelling through Europe. She was hostile, arrogant and without manners. I hope supervisor of staff read this feedback. Guides like the blonde woman should never be allowed to work in the tourist industry in France or any other country. Visitors to chateau Bizy, beware the "dragon" of Bizy and it is no joke ! Mr. Bernt Smedvig and Ms Åshild Smedvig, Kleppe, NORWAY
  • Beautiful park in the heart of the city... A must-see for lovers of nature! There is still room for the curious or the lovers of history...
