Chapelle du Rosaire, Vence
Categories: Art Museums, Historic Sites, Museums, Tourist Spots
A masterpiece designed by Henri Matisse, Chapelle du Rosaire is a monument of sacred art. The then-crippled artist designed the L-shaped church at the request of his former nurse, who had become a Dominican nun. Take time to examine the artist's various works and favorite objects, including stained glass, murals, stations of the cross, ceramics, objects of worship, and vestments. The structure is unassuming from the front--until you notice the 12 m (39 ft) crescent-adorned cross rising from the white and blue tiled roof. Stop in the gallery to learn about the chapel's design and construction from 1949 to 1951. Make Chapelle du Rosaire a centerpiece of your Vence vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Vence itinerary planner.

très bonne rénovation, belle exposition, à voir la chapelle est toujours aussi belle mais le 1er étage a été rénovévery good renovation, beautiful exhibition, to see the Chapel is still beautiful but the 1st floor has been renovatedshow original
While Matisse was a master of minimalism, this chapel takes it to the extreme. Beside a couple painted walls, there isn't much of Matisse here. Not worth the price of admission. There is a good view of Vence though from the garden.
I think photography should be allowed bearing in mind the admission charge
the simplicity and love that Mattise put into this work of art, hold a special place in my mind forever. What a beautiful experience along our tour of artist homes.
