Chapelle du Rosaire, Vence
(3.7/5 based on 380+ reviews on the web)
A masterpiece designed by Henri Matisse, Chapelle du Rosaire is a monument of sacred art. The then-crippled artist designed the L-shaped church at the request of his former nurse, who had become a Dominican nun. Take time to examine the artist's various works and favorite objects, including stained glass, murals, stations of the cross, ceramics, objects of worship, and vestments. The structure is unassuming from the front--until you notice the 12 m (39 ft) crescent-adorned cross rising from the white and blue tiled roof. Stop in the gallery to learn about the chapel's design and construction from 1949 to 1951. Make Chapelle du Rosaire a centerpiece of your Vence vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Vence itinerary planner.

  • Because in here 3 nights 4 days of Nice trips. Nice half-day tour turn on the next day, on Saturday visited one of the tours. (Fri, Sun, national holidays will be off on the plan requires attention. ) Is located in the famous art alley and TAKASU village San POLED Vance to. Image of Cactus wearing flowers behind the altar Chapel and stained glass, stained-glass Windows made of 3 colors Blue, green and yellow chosen on the left side towards the felt during the grandeur and contemporary atmosphere. Head to the cross, behind the back from the altar, Christ receives a court appearance on 14 occasions represented as black on a white wall drawings. Matisse's strong will feels in a simplified representation, I was impressed. And this study has many exhibits to the Matisse Museum in Nice, that pain is endured. It is recommended that will watch the match. In his later years Matisse's last work, and was impressed by their strength.

  • This little chapelle is created by Matisse. He has opened up the chatolic churchroom in a fantastic way. The stations of the Cross has been put together in one wall. The pulpit is in the middle of the...  more »
  • Matisse, end of life, has supported all of the very successful decoration of this Chapel, and especially the stained glass windows that broadcast magical colored lights/rays, fluctuating constantly during all day. No access for the moment in the garden, which makes taking into overall consideration of the very difficult building. Also show jumpers designed by Matisse.

  • Beautiful and tranquil place to pray/reflect and meditate. Combination of colours and shapes create a calm and soothing atmosphere.
  • While Matisse was a master of minimalism, this chapel takes it to the extreme. Beside a couple painted walls, there isn't much of Matisse here. Not worth the price of admission. There is a good view of Vence though from the garden.
  • Amazing to visit
  • I think photography should be allowed bearing in mind the admission charge
  • the simplicity and love that Mattise put into this work of art, hold a special place in my mind forever. What a beautiful experience along our tour of artist homes.
