Cathédrale Saint-Pierre de Vannes, Vannes
(4.4/5 based on 180+ reviews on the web)
Also considered a basilica, Cathédrale Saint-Pierre de Vannes is the seat of the Bishops of Vannes. The present neo-Gothic building was erected on the site of the former Romanesque cathedral. Its construction extends from the 15th to the 19th centuries, but the Romanesque bell tower dates back to the 13th century. The cathedral has retained tombs dating back to the 17th century, and the tombs of two bishops are in the crypt under the choir. The most remarkable item is a 12th century box made of wood and covered with painted parchment decorated with scenes of daily life. • In the heart of the city, this Cathedral to a special, important and majestic atmosphere. Gothic style, she was raised on the site of the former Romanesque cathedral. Very well preserved: the stained glass, the high altar, sculptures. She deserves to take its time to visit!

  • On my first visit to town after 36 years away from my family, leaving the country when I was a baby, I was amazed to learn that the region of Bretagne is the hometown of all my father's family, the thrill in being able to walk with the whole family at Vannes Centre and see this beautiful church was certainly very striking , I would advise that all tourists visiting the city. Gros bisous a tout le monde.

  • Has related the heart of the old town at the place St. Pierre, surrounded by many historic stone and timber-framed houses on the Hill Méné Cathedral, which was built in the 15th century on the site of a Romanesque chapel in the Gothic style and architectural style live from the 13th to the 19th century. Many timber-frame houses, whose Besonderheit is the connection of a stone ground floor-storey of half-timbered houses is located on the Rue St. Salomon and the Rue St. Gwenaël right of the Cathedral.
