Trip Planner:   Europe  /  France  /  Occitanie  /  Gard  /  Uzes  /  Le Duche
The construction of Le Duche dates back to the Middle Ages. The structures that make up this chateau reflect a number of periods and architectural styles, and most of them have been well-preserved. Architectural styles from the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and the Enlightenment period are all represented. Like most chateaus, it started out as a military installation with stone fortifications to hold off invaders. Look closely, and you will see that the early fortifications were supplemented with more decorative elements as time went on. Outside the building, wander through the courtyards and gardens. Pay 13 euros to see the roofs of Uzès... why not but good. The view is pretty, but the building still has little interest. Get in the car on the hillsides of Uzès you a breathtaking view for 0 euros...

We are not entered in the light of the price of admission... We did the tour of the building from the outside. A must see!

We did the tour of the first Duchy of France. Extraordinary! It is a beautiful place. Very nice and very passionate guide in history. I highly recommend! If you are brave let the rise of markets to go at the top of the tower. The view is exquisite!

This is a unique and beautiful site, but compared to other sites in the area, it is at least 50% over priced. We paid for the full tour, which included a guided section. The guided section was very crowded (oversold) and focused heavily on family history of the duchy and discussion of portraits. The guided section lasted about 20 minutes and is spoken in French, but there were written binders for following along in other languages. After the guided tour, we were allowed to wander some other parts of the duchy which included the tower. The view from the tower was excellent, but the circular stairs are extremely narrow and naturally, everyone from the oversold tour tried to climb the tower at the same time. If you'd like to climb a tower for a scenic view of Uzès, I would recommend the medieval garden even if you don't care about plants at all. At 1/3 the price of the full tour at the duchy, it's a much better deal.
