Must see · Nature / Wildlife Tour · Other
An open-air village museum, Ecomusee d'Alsace invites you into 73 historic Alsatian-style buildings filled with 40,000 items donated by enthusiastic Alsatians. Each house includes furniture, items from daily life, clothing, tools, and agricultural machinery from the mid 19th century up to the 1950s. Peek into life in an Alsatian village, observing a teacher in the old schoolhouse, a farmhouse with old farming machinery, and a kitchen with a traditional wood-burning stove. Listen to audio commentary in English, French, or German at 36 kiosks scattered throughout the village, describing the region's history, daily life, and the items on display. You can visit the apiary, milk cows, watch artisans create crafts, see an old-fashioned mill in operation, and smell fresh-baked traditional goods. Workshops throughout the season feature artisans making local crafts using traditional methods. Lastly, be sure to visit "Eden Palladium," a collection of antique carousels and carnival attractions that still function. • What an amazing place to visit. Loads to see, including live demonstrations The thought and effort that has gone into ecomusee is remarkable. We both know that we would never get bored looking...  more »

  • This a wonderful museum with many traditional houses. We thought this would be a few hours visit but we stayed here all day. We paid extra for a trip on the boat and a horse and carriage ride. Lots...  more »
  • Great place to spend the whole day with family and friends outdoors. Lots of various activities and things to learn and try. Majority of expanations are translated to German and English. Animators are behaving so natural that you get a feeling you really arrived back in time.
  • Well presented but no guides in English and alot of the push button information stations were not working. No cafe on site so unless you take a picnic you will go hungry/thirsty. The lady in the cooking house was very good and we tried various pieces of "old" cooked food and she was very friendly.
  • Very beautiful museum village with traditional Alsatian buildings. There are also exhibits of traditional trades such as a blacksmith. There are many plates with explanations and the farm animals are simply amazing. Perfect for people of all ages.
  • Interesting museum in decor, presentation and location. It’s very nice and we luckily had good weather that day. However, the restaurants could be better. We went into one restaurant for the traditional tarte flambée and it really suck! My husband’s family who was alsacienne were so disappointed with the food. If we ever come back, we would probably not eat in the museum.
  • Really nice and impressive. Dont recommend going there on a hot day, because you will walk outside under the hot sun. would give this place about 2 hours to walk through.
