  • Saint Tugdual: We know that much about this saint who is one of the 7 Holy founders of Britain. Originally from Wales, he would have migrated to Armorica, accompanied by his mother and would have created a monastery. It was around the year 542 that there would have been consecrated Bishop. The Cathedral: The current Cathedral is the (3) built on the site. The 1 °, probably made of wood and dedicated to St André, nothing. The 2 °, Romanesque style, dedicated to St Tugdual, there is the Tower of the north transept, so-called "tour of Hastings." The (3), of Gothic style, dedicated to St Yves, was built over 3 centuries: from the middle of the 13th century to the 15th century. Seen from above, it has the shape of a Latin cross which the nave is oriented from West to East. The Northern arm is the Tower called "Hasting", of Romanesque style dating back to the year 970. The South arm has a Gothic Tower topped at the end by a beautiful high perforated arrow of 60 meters, whose construction was completed only in 1785. Equal distance between these two towers and building on the transept stands a 3 ° Gothic Tower. The Cathedral measures 75 m long and 17.4 m wide with a height of 18 meters locked vaults. It is built in grey granite and pink granite. It includes, to the North is a cloister Gothic of the 15 century composed a beautiful indoor gallery, opened by 48 magnificent arcades on an indoor garden. It is one of the most beautiful and most complete Gothic cloister from France. The Interior of the Cathedral can be seen, among other things to discover:-the tomb of Duke Jean V of Brittany. Destroyed during the revolution, a recumbent figure was redone and a marble plate placed on the floor. -the tombs of the family of the Lords of Tréguier. -the mausoleum of St. Yves, one of the two patron saints of Brittany and patron of all professions of justice and right (even if he is known to be that of lawyers). Each year the 3rd Sunday of may, after the mass, takes place in Tréguier, one of the most important forgiveness of Britain, one of the St Yves. Lawyers, judges, lawyers, pilgrims come in numbers to honor him. The procession goes the Cathedral to the commune of Minihy. The reliquary containing the skull of St Yves is carried in turn by priests and lawyers in a dress. -stained glass old and modern (the large canopy of the South porch - 1970). -the great organ (18th century). Summer free guided tours are organized. The visits of the cloister (accessible from the Interior of the Cathedral) and the treasure of the Cathedral (in the sacristy) are all two paid (€2) but not possible throughout the year. Inquire beforehand. The majestic Cathedral St Tugdual dominates the Martray lined with old houses square and all of the old town of Tréguier to the rich past. It is an essential part of the city. To prepare your visit of Tréguier you can see Tripadvisor reviews and photographs devoted to the "House of Ernest Renan" and the "Place of the Martray".

  • Absolutely beautiful light inside at certain hours of the day, detaching modern colorful stained glass (there are indeed both contemporaries and elders), in projecting the flat tawny colors on all forms of the Cathedral (with fascinating effects on bouquets of hydrangeas placed on the altars in the summer). Visit of Treasury paid but at low price (beautiful jumpers and objects of worship) relics and tombs in the Cathedral (Saint Yves, patron of Brittany and the lawyers, whose forgiveness is May 19, great day of procession in Tréguier) directly, it does not seem there is any crypt. Emerges a very mystical atmosphere at night, especially when the cloister is open for exhibitions. Few believers in prayer except the hours of mass (Christmas midnight mass, the Cathedral is full, otherwise there is always room for visitors, more than the faithful). Do however not be surprised to find some of the faithful kneeling at the masses, what is not so common elsewhere.
