Prieure de Saint-Cosme, Tours
Categories: Architectural Buildings, Tourist Spots
Founded in 1092, Prieure de Saint-Cosme has interesting ruins, gardens, and a restored chancel and refectory. Decades ago, the priory fell into disrepair, and the impact from WWII further damaged the remains. You can visit the garden tomb, bedroom, and office of Pierre de Ronsard, the notable French Renaissance poet. Then stroll the tranquil gardens that showcase a large heirloom rose collection. A daring, but fresh, contemporary installation just boost these places mostly in ruins. Two regrets, however: I should allow 2 hours to enjoy longer. The second? Mikaël TournierPrieuré de Saint Cosme is a former monastery in which lived Pierre de Ronsard, famous poet of the Renaissance and a protégé of King Henri II. The ruins and buildings offer a fun and nice ride in sunny weather. Above all, do well the guessing at the end of the books of the desks. The home, do not be sickened by the strong smell of rose water, is just the home. Too bad that such a church was destroyed by bombing during WW2.show original
