Place du Capitole, Toulouse
(4.5/5 based on 3,000+ reviews on the web)
Some of the interior of Place du Capitole can be traced to the 16th century, but the current Neoclassical façade dates back to 1750. Made of pink marble and 135 m (443 ft) long, it boasts eight columns that represent the original eight capitals of the 16th century. In 1873, Eugène Viollet-le-Duc built the bell tower on top of the donjon or inner tower, in the typical northern French style. Only the Henri IV courtyard and gate survive from the original medieval buildings. Today the building houses the city hall, as well as an opera company and a symphony orchestra. • One of the important things that need to be made in life, aside from having a child, plant a tree and write a book, is to visit the different and varied Christmas markets, making artisan based, across our continent. One of the most interesting, in my opinion, is the Christmas market in Toulouse, which lasts a whole month (this year from 25/11 to 25/12). With some 200 stops, located in the plaza of the Capitol (the Town Hall), they have all those elements that make it exceptional. As it is difficult to explain all the explosion of products and colors, I attached a photo exhibition of what it means. If this add visits to the historical monuments of Toulouse or its extensive old town (including the convent of the Jacobins, where are the remains of Santo Tomás de Aquino) and its extensive cultural offerings, they become this destination one of the most essential of these dates.
