Place du Capitole, Toulouse

(4.5/5 based on 3,200+ reviews on the web)
Some of the interior of Place du Capitole can be traced to the 16th century, but the current Neoclassical façade dates back to 1750. Made of pink marble and 135 m (443 ft) long, it boasts eight columns that represent the original eight capitals of the 16th century. In 1873, Eugène Viollet-le-Duc built the bell tower on top of the donjon or inner tower, in the typical northern French style. Only the Henri IV courtyard and gate survive from the original medieval buildings. Today the building houses the city hall, as well as an opera company and a symphony orchestra. Put Place du Capitole and other Toulouse attractions into our Toulouse vacation route planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • Heart of the city. Full of life and people. Obligatory to visit the rest of the city.

  • I did not appreciate this place yet very popular... I found him too much rigor and cold... wide and rectangular, it I not liked... fabric stalls and other carnies have nothing d "interesting for my taste... maybe I am too"accustomed"to places such as Stanislas in Nancy or comedy in Montpellier, living and lined from bars and other businesses more alive!"
