Military Museum · Specialty Museum
The town of Toulon has a famous maritime museum, Musee National de la Marine . It is an extremely visited and liked museum of France. The collection at the museum dates back to Louis XV of France. The entry fee of the museum is quite nominal and the tour information is very good. It is located at the end of the wharf near the naval base. The audio guide explains the role of the port of Toulon in the navy. The paintings of the port, which are displayed in the museum, are exceptionally fine and captivating. To visit each point of the museum and to see every item on display takes a total of around one hour twenty minutes, which is not very much when you want to have a nice time. • Excellent museum for the price, and a great way to escape the rain! They provide audio guides in English and interesting exhibits of the history of Toulon port and French history in general. Would recommend spending an hour or so here to get a insight into what Toulon was like in the past....before the cruise ships arrived!
  • Very good museum with a lot of things to see, with a free audio-guide that gives good and interesting information. So don't hesitate!
  • Besides a comprehensive history of the French navy it is situated in the middle of the port where the modern day navy can be seen as well
  • Very nice and very much informative. Very organised and must visit place to know about French Naval base history
  • My children loved it. Excellent exhibition! Southampton Maritime Museum should learn how to do it!
