Chateau de Tiffauges, Tiffauges

(4.6/5 based on 240+ reviews on the web)
Chateau de Tiffauges was thought to be one residence of Gilles de Rais: fighting companion of Joan of Ark, notorious serial killer, and the inspiration for the legend of Bluebeard. Due to this tainted history, the château was left to ruin for many years, but after the Counsel General of Vendée acquired the property, it once again opened to the public. The largest medieval castle in the region, it features an alchemy workshop and an array of war machines from that period on display. After learning the science of making gold, take a tour of the grounds and search for the ghosts that are said to haunt the castle looking for revenge. Put Chateau de Tiffauges into our Tiffauges itinerary planner to see other points of interest to visit during your vacation in Tiffauges.

  • Very nice, well maintained site. The tour costume for children is great! This allows the adults to make their own tour quietly!

  • Little castle, nice but that does not require a day's visit. Half a day is enough. May lack animation and original as this looks more and more like Puy of the crazy, which is located not far. However, it is still friendly and accessible to spend half a day there. The setting is very nice, knowing that it has a great history! Namely that this place is even more beautiful during the Christmas market which is located inside the Castle. It's a magical setting, really not to miss at this time of the year!

  • Great small medieval castle with excellent shows, especially the jousting! Shame no cafe to eat, but well worth a visit!
  • Great day out for children.
  • A beautiful family experience. High quality show. Playful animation. A very efficient, friendly team and who plays the comedy with pleasure during the staging. We dig in the stories. Our kids of 3 and 7 years. Actually 3 h activities at least, the planning of activities is well done. Finally, more than reasonable prices when you consider the quality of the services.

  • The visit of the Château de TIffauges was a very nice surprise. As soon as one enters the enclosure, a guide in period costume gets us and give us the information needed to visit. There are many events or activities. A big positive point, can touch, test, and manipulate with the assistance of the animators. A big thank you to the young and dynamic team for hospitality and kindness. Particular thanks to the tour guide, it was super interesting, and one feels, there under the hat, and should it fail to leave, there for hours and hours of things to tell and explain.
