Col de Tende is a high mountain pass in the Alps, close to the border between France and Italy, although the highest section of the pass is wholly within France.It separates the Maritime Alps from the Ligurian Alps. It connects Nice and Tende in Alpes-Maritimes with Cuneo in Piedmont.A railway tunnel inaugurated in 1898 and a Road Tunnel inaugurated in 1882 run under the pass. The latter tunnel is 3.2 kilometre long and is among the oldest long road tunnels.French historian François Guizot states that the road was first developed by Phoenicians and later maintained by Greeks and Romans.

  • If you can stop near the traffic light Tent tunnel on the French side, most likely you'll be approached by animals from long bushy tail ... the foxes! ... Yes it's at close range

  • I cannot spend beautiful words to this hill. Being a native of the village below it, going back constantly. Ideal for those who want to approach the mountain tours, but even the most experienced is always a great place to spend the day. Walk towards the Rocca dell'abisso and Strong route very easy, not too long with a height difference almost non-existent.

  • Too bad that locals have, years ago, chose France. For Italy it would have been a nice attraction. Road works in progress a little disturbing the visuals, but the collection is worthwhile.
