Trip Planner: Europe / France / Occitanie / Pyrenees-Orientales / Tautavel / Museum of Prehistory Tautavel
See the oldest human found on French soil at Museum of Prehistory Tautavel, dedicated to the history of the first Europeans. The 450,000-year-old remains of Homme de Tautavel inspired the 21-room interactive museum, where you can examine the fruits of archeological excavations that have taught scholars about humankind's ancestors. The museum features authentic, detailed reproductions of prehistoric scenes, giving visitors a glimpse of history through the people, animals, and landscapes that existed nearly half a million years ago. Don't miss the wide range of tactile exhibits here--you're encouraged to touch the displays. But with this questionnaire, this has been fun and whom the entire family. They received a game of mikado at the end.

Un peu dépassé ce vieux musée qui mérite un autre cadre et sûrement des moyens en adéquation avec notre époque ! Il est néanmoins très propre, une visite guidée très agréable mais d'un autre siècle ! more »A bit overwhelmed this old Museum that deserves another frame and probably ways in line with our time! However, it is very clean, very nice but another century tour!

Fun educative museum. You can tell Cyril Calvet is really passionate about what he's doing.
Carine RivalJuly 11, 2017At first, hard to find parking in the immediate vicinity. Better to park on the parking located in the village. Then, a good Museum thought although a little older (the panels show signs of fatigue) but undergoing restructuring (via beautiful explanatory signs very well structured and attractive). There are projections of short films, many windows with cut stones and bones of prehistoric animals. The staff is friendly. Then there is a possibility to combine the visit to the Museum with the exhibition located in the village (next to the famous car parks), it is included in the price. This exhibition is modern, using holograms and felted atmosphere. All to formed an interesting visit with our children, especially the two large (8, 7, 5, 3).
Alex AlexJuly 28, 2017Park pretty down in the village signposted on arrival. This museum is well but the explanations are heavy and there are too! At the end of the second piece we want to read, the terms used are too complicated. And the videos are very interesting but same very technical. For the children it's undrinkable (already hard for adults lay)! I advise you to take the game to track that keeps busy them and is interesting (€3 and offered a box of mikado). Opening at 10: 00 and 11: 00 you have a guided tour (which may be a better approach allows). About the aging facilities cited often in the comments, I enclose a picture that explains that the Museum will be renovated.
Docteur GangAugust 14, 2017Parking for access to the Museum will easier against the bottom of the latter and you will enjoy the charm of this village. About the Museum, it is a pity that on a subject like this, with an exceptional historical site that we, the public authorities do not know highlight. Indeed, the explanations are too masterful and plentiful. We have the impression of attending a course of history with maps of the 1980s and pets in cardboard! Children drop out immediately. However the questionnaire given to them is well done and attractive, in Exchange for 3 euros anyway. At the time of the digital, this museum would benefit from more of educational interactivity. Special mentions for the activities offered during holidays (fire and archeology), by very interesting and educators, animators who made this day has been appreciated for the children and parents.
Sandra XSeptember 10, 2017He must really be interested in prehistoric times to visit this museum. Or instructive for learning of the children, but with a guide. The price is a little expensive in our opinion.
