Villa & Jardins Ephrussi de Rothschild, St-Jean-Cap-Ferrat
(4.7/5 based on 1,500+ reviews on the web)
Baroness Béatrice de Rothschild constructed Villa & Jardins Ephrussi de Rothschild between 1905 and 1912. Each of the villa's nine lush gardens has a unique theme: Florentine, Spanish, French, exotic, a stone garden, Japanese, rose, Provençal, and a garden de Sèvres. Formed under the direction of landscape architect Achille Duchêne, the gardens form the shape of a ship, meant to be viewed from the terrace of the house. The shape was inspired by the architect's voyage on the liner Île de France. The original gardeners were dressed as sailors, wearing berets with red pom-poms. • While the entry is not given (€13 50, reduced €10 50) but the visit of the villa (audio guide included) and its seven gardens deserve it. In addition you will receive every twenty minutes has a concert with water jets and lights in the french Garden (as at the Bellagio in Las Vegas and less grandiose it is true). Coupled ticket (€ 17) with the exotic garden of Eze. If you make two visits you will have probably seen most beautiful sites of the Riviera. The rich heiress of the French branch of the Rothschild was judging the very eccentric story... but what taste, how refinement, perceptive in his choices. A veritable museum where you can see sumptuous tapestries, religious books, the Fragonard, and especially beautiful views over the Bay of Beaulieu and Villefranche. 40 architects continued to refine this gem. And many gardeners for the seven gardens this ship bow darting toward the waves of eternal way according to the wishes of the rich heiress who bequeathed the property to the "friends of fine arts" not to be missed under any circumstances.

  • If you go in a car, parking is not guaranteed and can be difficult as it's on a steep slope, ok that's the bad stuff done. Stunning building and grounds and gorgeous scenery all around. The house is interesting and the gardens are beautiful. A great place to take photos.
  • Beautiful villa with a beautiful large garden divided into several thematic parts. From the garden has amazing views of the surrounding villages. I strongly recommend to visit it. It is a bit remote from the train station and bus stop 100.
  • The gardens are the most spectacular part of this villa. The building itself is nice and the free audio guides are helpful. The tea room is worth the price of the beautiful salads and pastries. But take the most time walking the grounds and enjoying the views of the bays on either side of the villa and the flora found no where else in the Côte d'Azur.
  • Lovely, lovely garden-- We had a really excellent meal in the restaurant with very reasonable prices. Would love to return
  • The house was not as impressive as i had hoped but the gardens are a true stand out! The views from the Villa are amazing. A great place to spend a day just strolling.
