4.2/5 based on 45+ reviews on the web
Open to the public since 1980, Priory Museum (Musee Maurice Denis - Le Prieure) is a museum dedicated to Nabi art and is named for Maurice Denis, a French symbolist Nabi painter. During your visit, you can view Denis’ work as well as that of Paul Gauguin, Paul Sérusier, Émile Bernard, and more. Set aside some time to enjoy the pieces, because this museum holds the largest collection of Nabi art in France.

You can also visit the adjacent chapel, restored and decorated by Denis from 1915 to 1928, as well as his workshop. The whole is an imposing structure that includes a wooded park in the south. • A few years ago you could see the works of Nabis of the collection and exhibitions devoted to contemporary painters of Maurie Denis. Today virtually only the works of Maurice Denis, his workshop in the yard is closed and all the beautiful collection of the Museum seems confined to reserves; It seems unlikely that of the owner of the Museum Yvelines Department seeks to reduce its modest attendance by limiting the number of works to the public to give seems you it good reason to close. I was frustrated where this opinion to denounce what seems a scandal. The building and the site are beautiful. Collections of great value still takes it out reservations and my score instantly goes back to 5/5 yet how it is nice to see extraordinary paintings without being hustled by a horde of tourists. This place is magical.

  • It is true that if you are fan of the Nabi movement it is really a must. If you are Granville, more reason to go visit a compatriot. This is a visit in the context of a day at St Germain, for example it will benefit to visit the old castle which now houses the National Museum of archaeology. The House of Maurice Denis is pretty amazing: located in the city, it is surrounded by a park that at one time, was splendid but which today lacks a bit of maintenance. The House/Museum, beautiful architecture,(construite par "la" Montespan en 1678) is home of many works from the artist. Magnificent chapel decorated under the direction of the Granville.

  • A little-known Museum, which deserves to be discovered. Its garden, the building and the collections are a quiet Rapture and relaxing. Its very reasonable price only adds to its authentic charm!

  • The museum traces the period from Maurice Denis, so many artists, "nabis". The opportunity to indulge themselves quickly (the Museum is small) and often (€4,5 entry). And the decor of the Priory is not detrimental. To consume without moderation.
