Iles des Embiez, Six-Fours-les-Plages

Only 12 minutes away by ferry from the port of Le Brusc, the tiny Iles des Embiez is often called a little piece of paradise. Six km (3.7 mi) of coastline wrap around the .9 sq km (.35 sq mi) island, striped with several wild creeks where you can swim in crystal clear water. Divers especially can enjoy the sea depths, while others can sunbathe on the beaches, play tennis, visit the museum-aquarium, hike in the forest, or wander through a vineyard. The island, which has strict environmental protections, features a couple of hotels and a handful of restaurants. I live yet not far away but I went a few weeks ago and what a beautiful discovery, very well preserved wild place. I advise the train to start and learn the history of this island, Christian the driver is over the top. You can then go around easily on foot and enjoy small beaches that have nothing to envy to the most famous and tourist beaches. Last point to see, the view of its neighbour of Gaou from the heights of the Embiez Island, just beautiful.

The island is a wonderful small paradise . . . but the hotel seems to function mainly with interns who did not even major in tourism, it seems. At the reception desk, you will have to fight if you have reserved through their website : don't forget to bring your screenshots of what you've booked! Supposed to be a four star hotel, the coffee is worse than bad & old Nespresso (if not worse, in a big lukewarm pot). The cheese are served right next to the ham. Yummy for our muslim brothers ;) . Croissants and chocolate rolls are served directly from . . .the freezer after a quick tour in the oven, where they are overburned. The milk is neither organic, nor fresh (think UHT). Don't even bother asking for soy milk or any other substitute. They seem to live in the 90's. There is no night manager : the poor guy who stays up at night has to clean up all windows, doorbells, etc...during the night. You'd think that such an hotel would have a great bartender, belonging to the Pernod-Ricard holding, but the guy apparently never had an alcoholic drink. The swimming pool is a real treat : if it did open at nightand not according to a timetable which only satisfy the employees, who are mostly unsmiling. Worse than all : a scorpio has been spotted a few times in the sundeck : welcome to risk-lovers! You have been warmed. Now, the food. You'd think there would be plenty of local fish? You're joking : it's mostly salmon (not even wild) and the occasional (small) tuna fish. The chef probably thinks he/she is best hidden and never shows up to see how the guests feel. Last time I was there in 2014, they had discover Modena vinegar artfully drawn on the plates and kept doing it whatever the dish. In short, rent an apartment or a villa! The hotel is really overpriced. And, the wifi is anemic at best and disconnects you every two minute.

Embiez island is a beautiful holiday resort. Very nice port for the yacht but the place is a little expensive €40 the night! The Garlaban gourmet restaurant is not to be missed with its terrace over a port and its absolutely delicious crust, the signature dish of the head bar.

Very nice island with a remarkable flora and fauna. Very nice car no car so the framework is really relaxing. More bathrooms for boaters are really nice and clean.
