Citadelle de Sisteron, Sisteron

(4.6/5 based on 360 reviews on the web)
To secure the road between the Alps and the Mediterranean, Citadelle de Sisteron was strategically built on a rocky ridge 500 m (1,640 ft) above sea level between Dauphine and Durance. Examine the impressive construction--a collection of miscellaneous structures resulting from modernization and various embellishments. • Extraordinary views from the wall of the great mountain and the river that divides the city. in winter the Citadel closes and only you can access your beautiful surroundings and viewpoints.

  • It's beautiful to see both the scenery for those who love to feel a little bit of history. Walk between hills and stairs with authentic stones you have a good time. Not recommended for those who have limited mobility or disability because the facility is not equipped.

  • It is a good place for pictures. We could not enter in there but outside it is also beautiful, you can enjoy it.

  • Offering great views up and down the valley and of the town of Sisteron. The main attraction is the fortification itself. You get impressive access to most of the site. There isn't a large amount of other things to see inside, a few old photos and paints of the town and citadel over the years.
  • I have already visited a lot of these sort of monumental places but this one is a stunning site. Breathtaking views!!!
  • Its a pretty steep climb, but worth it! Great views on top of a grand history lesson.
  • Extremely good views over the landscape in both directions, north and south. Nothing much to see within the walls.
  • Picturesque and panoramique.
