Domaine de Mourchon, Seguret

4.7
#5 of 55 in Wineries in Vaucluse
A solitary valley set in southern France, Domaine de Mourchon is today known worldwide for its excellent wine. Domaine de Mourchon came into the ownership of the McKinlay family in the year 1998. Totally, there were about twenty hectares (almost fifty acres) of vines in their vineyard, and yet no way of harnessing this to make wine. A modern, high – tech winery was finally created in the year 2000. This, together with the perfect climate, clay and limestone geology brings some of the greatest wine to be made. • Beautiful setting and lovely wines. Enjoyed the winery through an event planned by our hosts at Le Bouquet de Seguret.  more »
  • We visited Domaine de Mourchon after our stop at Seguret. It was really easy to find. (just make sure you follow the road all the way to the top as it would be a VERY long walk up a VERY steep hill.) ...  more »
  • We loved this tour and after many many wine tours all over the world, actually learned a few new things! Informative and interesting. Highly recommend.  more »

  • Very nice wine tasting. We tasted all of the wines in their assortment, which was pretty fun, especially since they told us about all the wines in detail. And it goes without saying - it's fun to get drunk at daytime!
  • Stunning vineyard on the top of a hill. Only traditional methods used to craft spectacular wines. Owner is hands on the entire operation.
  • Great wine tasting. Walter poured a lot of tastings and told lots of stories. Recommended.
  • We stayed for a week in the gite next to the caveau, on a family holiday (6 adults, 1 baby, 2 bicycles). The accommodation was lovely. The rooms were plenty big enough, and separated into different areas, so if someone has an unsettled night, not everyone will hear it. One of the areas downstairs is really a self contained little flat, with a kitchen/diner, 2 bedrooms and bathroom, so perfect for those with children. The kitchen was very well equipped, and had everything we needed for both stovetop, oven and barbecue cooking. We were lucky enough to be able to eat outside, at the top there is a dining area shaded by vines, where the barbecue is. This was lovely. Downstairs outside there is a large lawned area, with swimming pool off that. The separated sleeping areas mentioned above are accessed from the garden area, as well as the main stairs inside the gite. There are supermarkets, fuel etc within 10 miles. The nearest big place is probably Carpentras. This is a quiet place, in a quiet area. It's more suited for some R&R and Cotes du Rhone than throwing shapes in the nightclub. If you are cycling, Mont Ventoux is visible from the outside dining area. Bedoin is 16 miles away. The roads are invariably quiet and safe. Mourchon is on a hill, which can get a bit evil in parts, so remember you still have around 3 miles of climb to do right at the end! This is a fantastic place to base yourself for exploring the area, with just one advisory: there is a hill in every direction, and a lot of very rough tracks. Not good for pushing the pram round if baby needs a sleep. We will stay here again if we come back to the area.
  • Worth the journey for the view alone. Friendly, informal dégustation including white, rosé, semi sweet and (predominantly) red wines, several bottles of which were duly purchased.
