Magnificent historic monument in perfect condition. A moment of magic to each visit even reverence for non initiated. To do absolutely not for the serenity of the place. A place maintained thanks to the donations of the faithful that reminds the greatness of our civilization.

It was a moment that his two arrows we were the eye on the horizon of the sky Norman and finally, we took a slightly more quiet afternoon to go to the discovery of this jewel of Gothic architecture: the Cathedral Notre-Dame de Sées (or Séez). Who could imagine looking up on the majestic vastness of this Norman Gothic set, it took centuries of tenacity and perseverance, so that we can admire today. Indeed, Notre Dame de Sées is a symbol of resilience and reconstruction without the same, I think that if architecture had a soul, we could even speak of her as a survivor! You think I'm exaggerating? So listen so a little story I want to tell you and you will see for yourself that a cathedral, as large as is, maybe fragile and vulnerable... In the year 440 begins the construction of a first Cathedral under the auspices of the Bishop Saint Latuin, the Normandy invasions will have reason to it. A second building will be born in the same place and suffered little near the same cruel fate. Regardless, at the time the faith raised the mountains as well as the masses of the Stonecutters. A new Bishop (Azon 986-1006) get back to work, thus giving the town its third Cathedral. Oops! One of his successors, Yves de Bellême (but no I'm not a rat) set on fire by mistake. In his defense, you still have to specify that looters settled in the place, used this place as a den of thieves, stable and brothel. Entrenched, the good Bishop wanted to smoke out them by setting fire to some houses around (solution of the most questionable I agree but we weren't there). Anyway, the bandits were dislodged and the fourth time rebuilt Cathedral in 1126 by Yves de Bellême, who had to manage to find the funds in penance for his fault. 1174, multiple battles against Henri II and Louis VII. Our Cathedral will be in one of the victims being delivered to the flames once again. When I tell you that she is a survivor, you see that I don't tell you stories... In 1210 begins construction of the fifth and final Cathedral dedicated in 1310. Unfortunately, the lack of funds pushes the architect a somewhat neglect the basics. The hundred years war and the wars of religion will not spare him, and the revolution will also leave its mark. Fortunately, the Church and many architects will arise at his bedside during two centuries in order to consolidate it, renovate it and rebuild the most affected parties and it is thanks to them that today we can admire this untouched and impressive monument that represents the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Sées.

It's too bad the French revolution passed by here! Much of low reliefs outside esquintés, but the narthex is of great beauty! Meanwhile inside is a smooth thanks to the carefully placed windows. Ceilings with color braces are wonderful!

. A majestic sight from afar. You can spot the two towers of this cathedral from miles away. Or should I say kilometres, as we are in France? It's a surprisingly large church for such a small town, with some interesting interior details. The square around it provides good parking. .
