Langlois-Chateau, Saumur

#3 of 13 in Wineries in Pays de la Loire
Sip and smile at Langlois-Chateau where sparkling wines are a specialty. The chateau was procured--and opened as a winery-- in 1912 by Edouard Langlois and his wife Jeanne Chateau. The couple enjoyed quick success with their sparkling wine, but production was interrupted by WWI and the death of Langlois. However, it wasn’t long before the bubbles were popping again at the chateau. Financial success allowed the property to begin an expansion that didn't end until 2009.

You’ll begin your tour at the School of Wine where you’ll learn about the wine-making processl. Then you’ll make a 300 m (984 ft) journey underground to the cellars to learn more about Langlois methods, and taste their famed Crémant de Loire. Walk around the exterior of the chateau to get a view of the vines in those abundant, sloping Loire Valley hills that draw visitors from all over the globe in pursuit of the perfect sparkling beverage. • We decided to visit the cellars of the region, and chance did we started by "Langlois Chateau". It was a pleasure to visit with Isabelle, she gave us a great course which helped us for subsequent visits. It is she who has been the clearest and the most enthusiastic. We had a great time and the tasting was also very nice. I advise everyone to do, it takes 2 hours with the tasting. Thanks Isabelle for this wine class.

  • 5€ would be great value just for the wine tour. This was a very instructive 1 and a bit hour tour of the winery..taking you from the initial harvesting, through the different processes used for the lo...  more »
  • We come out of the blue to four including two children. The tasting is very good, which I can't remember the name (he will excuse me) is just perfect. Children have a place to play which makes the tasting. The wine is very good. It is served at the perfect temperature despite the 36 degrees out. We could visit the cellar while this was not planned. Many thanks again and see you soon

  • A pity that we couldn't join the tour as advance booking is required and it takes 1.5 hrs for it. We joined the wine tasting session instead and tried a few good wine.
  • Great wine, wonderful service!
  • This Saumur vineyard specialises in sparkling wine but also delivers very good quality white and reds typical of the region. On our visit we took a tour with Michel Launay who proved to be a very charming and knowledgeable host. I thoroughly recommend you try the Cremant and for something different ask to try their Red Sparkling Carmen!
  • Charming staff. Visit advisable. Rcp wines.
