Taste a little sparkle--sparkling wine, that is--in a 15th-century limestone quarry at Caves Louis de Grenelle. The tuffeau limestone mined by prisoners of war provided the material that built many châteaux and houses in the Loire Valley. However, once the houses were built and the prisoners released, it was time to celebrate with a little bubbly; and that’s exactly what Louis de Grenelle and his family did. The caves are now used to age the precious grape essence in perfect atmospheric conditions. See bottles lining the chalky walls, waiting for their time to shine. The winery is still owned and managed by the family of Louis de Grenelle, who follow time-honored methods of fermentation established in 1859 by Louis himself. • Very good would recommend to everyone who like wines
  • I have recommended this cave to so many friends now, I may as well add a review here. The tour of the cellar was interesting and informative even for the children, and the tasting afterward was unique. It culminated in a sparkling red wine (it would be a Red Champagne if the name were not restricted) that is very special; worth a visit for that alone. And the chateau at the top of the hill is a good place to walk off the effects!
  • Superb visit recommended by the hotel Best Western Adagio. Very friendly reception and visit of the cellars very rewarding. Well-conducted tastings we have found red wine sparkling House. I strongly recommend!
