  • This is a mansion that is furnished with period furniture (unlike several castles which were stripped of their property). It is true that several time furniture appear there, but you should know that the Manor to several centuries of history. The mansion resembles a museum with several valuables. Those who did not like the tour, I do not understand. It's a mansion... Apart from apartments and furniture, what were thinking... find skeletons in a closet? For my part, it's a favorite in Sarlat.

  • Our hostess recommended this place for us and we found it quite charming. A pleasant relief from stuffy museums, the most interesting was the recreation of the "curiosity rooms" with interesting finds...  more »
  • From the outside this looks like a pretty insignificant building, but once inside - wow! It shows how the other half lived. The rooms are packed full of interesting things, furniture etc.  more »

  • Pretty good place to visit in Sarlat if you have time to spare after the main sights. I wouldn't say it's unmissable but for an extended stay it's interesting to see inside a restored manor house.
  • I'm in love with Sarlat. Once there I even thought about living there. I fell in love immediatly. I met a very cool waitress at a restaurant and we talked for a long time, I could walk around this little place forever...
  • Only saw it from the outside but its very medieval looking, impressively maintained and authentic. The whole town is very authentic with an intricate street plan throughout markets of good food and wine. Cobblestone paths some great rooftops too.
  • Beautiful medieval town in the wonderful Dordogne region

Where to stay in Sarlat-la-Caneda

Chances are good that if you stay in Sarlat-la-Caneda, you'll be housed in a historical building. Many hotels and other lodgings in this medieval capital are in old mansions and structures that have existed for many centuries. While the range of choices does include a few more modern hotels, most are beautiful family-owned spots where you might expect to eat meals with the owners. It's hard to go wrong in terms of location, but staying close to the historical center is best. Also, take note that hotels in this region tend to fill up quickly in the summer, so be sure to book before you arrive.
