  • Very nice. More than an hour of visit (I to tell you more, because for you to discover). The history of salt and the town of Salies de Béarn is well explained. This discovery is instructive for all ages. The photographs are beautiful as well as decorations. Now for you to see, if you go close to Salies.

  • As stated in my title, I visited "the Museum of salt and Bearnese traditions" and I had the chance to participate in the tour that is performed during the days of opening at 15:00. The passionate guide made us travel through time, from the arrival of the first men to the creation of Salinas and the end of the development of the salt to the old. Nothing that the building dating from the first half of the 16th century is really beautiful and typical buildings of the time. It has been restored by the association of friends of the dirty old man. On the outside we can see the coulede or was poured the water recovered from the sources by the tiradors using samaux. Inside the Museum on the ground floor, a reconstitution of a workshop of time, lets imagine work carry out to recover the salt. It consists of a large hole filled with water through a wooden pipe that connects to the coulede. This water is poured into large stoves in fonts heated to evaporate it. Finally we get the salt that ends to dry on an incline. A stuffed boar just next to a model of the city allows to recall the famous "legend of the boar". The rest of the Museum is allocated to the first floor to Béarn tradition with the game of keel, but also several objects for the making of the sandals and cabinetmaking. A showcase is dedicated to the objects dating from the first baths Salisiennes. Then finally on the second floor, a historical aspect see geological is evoked through several panels and display cases or found shellfish, but also rocks which show that Salies were under water there are many millions of years. To conclude, the Museum is open from April to October at the rate of € 4 per adult for a single visit. Please add € 1 for the guided tour. Free up to 7 years, € 1.50 to € 3 up to 18 years and 12 years. It takes 1 h 30 to do the tour of the Museum. Next to the home of the memorabilia, salt, books and journals of the friends of the dirty old are on sale. Place to see.
