  • This Roman arch is located on the banks of the Charente River in a pleasant environment. The arch was built between the years 18 and 19 a.d. and was located at the entrance of a bridge, also Roman, which crossed the river and was demolished in 1843. The current site is not the original, since moved to demolish the bridge. The arch, which is composed of two arches was restored when it moved and is in good condition.

  • We had an enjoyable day exploring Saintes & the arch of Germanicus was awesome to view. Well worth a visit.
  • The banks of the Charente were the subject of a long refit. Urban renewal has also covered the city centre and Cathedral, with a pleasant pedestrian area and its shops, cafés and restaurants including.
