Logis de la Chabotterie, Saint-Sulpice-le-Verdon
(4.4/5 based on 120 reviews on the web)
Logis de la Chabotterie, or Lodge of Chabotterie, was the last site of Vendee’s “great war.” General Charette was taken to the lodge after his capture, but it must have been a pleasant prison sentence and once you’ve see it’s enchanting environs you’ll understand why. Manicured 18th century gardens abut a house that is dedicated to Vendee’s war history and the stories of historical personages who’ve passed through the lodge. It is often the site of spectacles and concerts because of its import in the region’s history; but, spectacle or no, you’ll delight in the romantic heroism of this little maison tucked away in the French countryside. • Very interesting for those who like history in the broadest sense and the Vendée wars in particular. Thinking with pride be an expert on the history of the wars of the Vendée, I took friends visit and was surprised at my ignorance I have learned so much in a day. The site is beautiful and well preserved, in addition, the truly captivating room with explanations of strategies and anecdotes. A place to visit, even if it's a Republican

  • Good place to walk in the middle of nature. Parking well equipped and beautiful alleys of walk around the Castle. There is also a maze made of hedge.

  • We had already visited the home of the Chabotterie a few years ago and we went back after the modernization work. The route explaining the war of Vendée is remarkably well made and beautifully renders the tragedy that was the event.

  • Franchement ennuyeux. Les petites animations sont particulièrement mal réalisées, on aurait dit qu'un des "acteurs mécaniques" allait perdre sa tête mal attachée.
  • Responding and beautiful. Essential during a stay in the Vendée. Go for it!

  • High place in the history of the Vendée, nice tour, space well laid out with plenty of entertainment (concerts, exhibition...). A natural environment friendly, wooded, typical of the Vendée. You come back with pleasure.

  • Very nice animations: workshops of Christmas, young public festival, orientation courses, talent contest...
