Musee Gallo-Romain, Saint-Romain-en-Gal
(4.5/5 based on 60 reviews on the web)
The Musée gallo-romain de Fourvière or Gallo-Roman Museum of Lyon is a museum on the Gallo-Roman civilisation in Lyon (Roman Lugdunum), previously located in the heart of the Roman city and now sited near the city's Roman theatre on the Fourvière hill, half-buried into the hillside on the edge of the archaeological site. The new building was designed by Bernard Zehrfuss and opened in 1975. Internally, it is formed of a concrete spiral ramp descending and branching out into the display rooms. It is managed and operated by the Rhone department jointly with the archaeological museum of Saint-Romain-en-Gal. As well as displaying its own permanent collections of Roman, Celtic and pre-Roman material (inscriptions, statues, jewellery, everyday objects), a plan-relief of the ancient town and scale models of its major monuments such as the theatre and the Odeon, it also regularly hosts temporary exhibitions.

  • Visit in November 2016 at an exhibition on the heroes of Hercules to Darth Vader. You can not really note a museum because everyone has his sensitivity to the works. However I can tell you about a few points on what surrounds that of Saint-Romain-Gal: - facilities for Park - nice people to safety through the window - visit fluid through a good space planning - adjusted rates to budget - variety of exhibitions throughout the year - when there are more, there are still (a lot of things to see outside) - it's clean! -Suitable for children, the museum itself but also some exhibitions. -Of audio commentaries (paid service) in summary, access to the culture at this price (memory €15 for 2 without reduction) is extremely interesting.

  • Archaeologist training, but not particularly passionate of Gallo-Roman civilization (they sued me for all of my studies, to my despair! lol), I was very surprised and pleasantly surprised by the staging of the scene and conquered by the visit of the archaeological site with comments on audio device easy to use and very informative. My spouse, novice in the area, said he was very satisfied with his visit. He learned a lot in a short time. To see everything, as we are big fans of explanations and comparisons in all kind, they took us a whole day for all shelled! I highly recommend visiting this Museum and its surroundings!

  • We tested the Museum on his birthday. A lot of animations. The Museum is very nice and friendly. The temporary exhibition is very friendly.

  • Nice scenery blended with architecture that takes you back im time.
  • Roman anfitheter worth seeing and exploring the acoustic
  • Great museum to visit if you happens to be in Lyon! I was here and was lucky enough to be with a friend who passionate and studied Archaeology!
  • Some people might think that there is too many ancient stones in the Museum but the movie and all the objects inside the Museum can help you understand Lyon's history. I guess this is a must-see if you stay two weeks and have time for it. And if you are of course interested in History. Visited September 2015
  • Parfait pour se detendre !
