Chateau de Miolans, Saint-Pierre d Albigny
(4.5/5 based on 50+ reviews on the web)
Chateau de Miolans, once known as the "Bastille of the Alps," operated as a prison for 160 years. After the revolution, all prisoners were freed, and the castle was left to crumble, but in the 19th century the prefect of Savoy began to restore it. Today you can retrace the steps of the fortress' long-suffering prisoners while reveling in its position at the confluence of the Isere and Arc rivers. At the entrance, you ask for an English-language leaflet explaining the site's history. Take a look at our Saint-Pierre d Albigny trip itinerary maker to schedule your visit to Chateau de Miolans and learn about what else to see and do during your holiday.

  • Beautiful medieval fortress overlooking the combe de Savoie, the castle is in itself impressive. You can of course visit, very interesting also the garden, where you can see plants grown in the middle ages. For big and small!

  • If you, like us, love the old stones, especially do not miss this tour! A superb Castle during renovations, including a maze of rooms, aromatic gardens and an herb shop in which you will be pleasantly welcomed and where you can enjoy the urine of lepers, dragon blood and another kind which we have forgotten the name of made-up only with plants and delicious syrups!

  • My family was visiting St. Pierre d'Albigny because my great-grandfather had emigrated from there to the US 125 years ago. As part of that trip, we stumbled upon the Chateau de Miolans.I was very impressed by the history and beauty of the site. Of a month long trip to Europe, it still stands as one of the highlights of our trip.
  • A voir. Superbe panorama.
  • Haloween in the Castle it was top! A medieval troupe made us discover the Castle via a hunt treasure. .. top!

  • Visit free, punctuated of small signs that allow to trace the history of the different parts. Beautiful aromatic garden and nice view. Two flats, the price a little high and many work on the building.
