Chateau de Crussol, Saint-Peray

4.6
#1 of 18 in Historic Sites in Ardeche
Historic Site Tourist Spot
An explosion in a quarry below Chateau de Crussol severely damaged part of the structure, but what remains is a testament to 12th-century architecture and engineering. In the 11th century, the castle was important in controlling transport along the Rhone River. It was lit on fire dozens of times during France's religious wars in the 16th century. Today you can tour the mostly ruined complex yourself all year round, and guided tours are available in the summer months. • Valley we see a ruined... in se.y Castle making it one discovers an entire medieval village. Of course ruined, but enough remains to recognize the houses, the streets. At the top in the Dungeon there a wonderful view on the Rhone River and the city of Valencia.

  • It of not so much the remains of the fortress in it--even to justify the move, but the perspective and views it allows when this has been achieved, and also the impression of power always present when we get "a tortuous, difficult path" to go with steep stony to access. Tongues, tennis shoes of cities are totally discouraged. If the time covers provide a light windbreaker ouimpermeable, (useless umbrella wind is too violent, and there is baubcun place varying protected and covered in the ruins to shelter of the more, always strong and cold).

  • Nice visit if you stay a day near Valence, good diferent path and hikes for views and calm, maybe very windy
  • One of my favorite places in the Ardeche. You can easily walk around in the area. With some imagination you reconstruct the castle. A lot of elements are still existing (but remain a ruin :-). On top of the castle let you eyes wander around. On good days you can see the Rhone valley, the Vercors and even the Alpes. Simon Visit my website: www.noireblanc.de
  • I love this place. We had a great time recently at Crussol in party. Medieval activities, shows, Fireworks fire program. A true moment of pleasure for the young and the old. Big favorite for the night show
