Crisbecq Battery, Saint-Marcouf

4.2
Explore Utah Beach's largest artillery site at Crisbecq Battery, one of Nazi Germany's key defenses against the Allied invasion. Check out the artillery site's sturdy concrete bunkers and gun emplacements that housed the Czech-made Skoda artillery pieces, which fired back at Allied ships approaching from the sea. Traverse the battery's extensive network of 21 blockhouses, its underground rooms, and pillboxes to get a feel for what life as a German gunner was like in the time leading up to the Allied invasion. Don't miss the several rooms outfitted with dioramas and original equipment presented in their wartime state. • Who would like to get a good look at a bunker system, which should come here. You can get a good insight into the everyday life of bunker life. The description that you get at the entrance is very informative and good. The price is reasonable.

  • The system I well restored and you should be the time take to go the route of the positions. The bunker show the life of the German defenders in the fixtures. In contrast to the usually very Allied-heavy museums. Impressive also the thickness of the walls of the bunker and size of the plant.

  • A stone's throw away from Azeville is the battery Crisbeq, much larger and overlooking Utah beach. The Museum offers an insight into the various stations of the battery, the bunkers are partially furnished and show the daily service in these slabs. The German flyer is little informative, here shows Azeville with an audio guide that it goes better. All in all still a waste of time.

  • Great little place. Several different bunkers with a lot to see in them. Not a very long walk so it's easy for kids.
  • Worth a visit if you are interested in the history of Walter Ohmsen and want to see the original site. Also the view to the ocean is nice. Beside that the museum offers little to no information. The audioguide of Batterie d'Azeville, which is nearby, answered more questions about the Crisbeque Battery than their own museum! So if you just want to visit one i would recomend Batterie d'Azeville over this one!
  • That is amazing!
  • A good impression on German batteries making up Atlantic Wall
  • Worth the visit. Very interesting. And very good recreations of how was the life inside the bunkers
