Bibracte - Mont Beuvray, Saint-Leger-sous-Beuvray

Bibracte - Mont Beuvray keeps you and your family busy with three attractions in one: the archaeological site, the museum of Celtic civilization, and the research center. An audio commentary in English guides you through the exhibits and interesting recreations of key buildings, such as the blacksmiths shop and a typical house interior. Archaeologists continue to work at the site and you can watch them dig for cultural and biological treasures. • Nature, the views on the Morvan panoramas and especially trees await you in all seasons.

  • Go to Bibracte, is first learned much about Gallic civilization and power, at the same time, be aware of what that means with a visit to the site. Particularly interesting. The must: be lucky, by very clear skies of winter, to see everything in the distance, the Summit of Mont Blanc. I know have it, some years ago. Not this time. Next time?

  • Bibracte, is located on the current Mont-Beuvray, in the South of Burgundy and on the southern edge of the Morvan massif, was in the 1st century BC a settlement fortified of a few hundred inhabitants. I would add that Vercingetorix has gathered the Gauls to the oppidum of Bibracte on Mont Beuvray, here you are at the heart of the subject. the Mont Beuvray is an extraordinary natural site, a historic site operated in the open air by archaeologists, a museum on the Gallic life of great wealth. Located 20 kilometres west of Autun, the Mont Beuvray culminates at 821 metres above sea level. It is one of the highest summits of the Morvan.

  • a small montagnette which yet is the second top top of the Morvan. We can observe some Gallo-Roman remains, and at the foot of this mountain lies the Museum of Celtic culture (Bibracte) a museum that I highly recommend is those who have a minimum of interest in their roots!

  • The mont Beuvray was chosen by the Aedui (Gallic people) to build its capital, Bibracte. Archaeological excavations have updated a number of buildings and part of the oppidum was rebuilt; There were 15 doors and that of the Rebout was partly rebuilt. It is a pleasant walk in nature with interesting culture points. From the top of the mountain, we have a wonderful view on the surrounding countryside and Autun.

  • Great place! Historically the site of Bibracte, capital of the Aedui, scientifically speaking with excavations dating from the Gallo-Roman period, speaking area of gastronomy with the cauldron (Gallic restaurant) and a wonderful Museum Archaeological which is a masterpiece of modern architecture and archaeological treasures. See and discover absolutely. ..
