  • Imperative when we're on St John from port. When the weather is clear, the view of the mountains from the Citadel is breathtaking. To also make the walkway.

  • Since the lower town, crossing medieval doors, it must let themselves be led by the narrow streets lined with small friendly shops and houses several times centenarians, up to the Citadel that dominates the city. The doors: they are number 7: of Navarre door Notre-dame, door of France, Santiago gate, gate of Eyheraberry gate, gate of Uhart and Spain. The walls: they are at the door of Uhart to the door of Spain, then to that of Eyheraberry and extend housing the Nive to Avenue of the Pediment. The coastal path: starts at the door of Navarre, crosses the door of France and then of St. James and leads to the Citadel. Another stretch of this way, to the West, leaving behind the Church of the assumption of the Virgin and also leads him to the Citadel. The Citadel: the site was once the Palace of the Kings of Navarre. It was built in the 17th century on the plans of the Antoine Deville Knight, then reworked by Vauban in 1685. He was held a garrison until 1920. Today is a public college. Beautiful esplanade. My advice: since the door of Spain, up the eponymous Street. Before we get to the Roman bridge, on your right, notice, at number 23, the House of States of Navarre. Cross the bridge then the Notre Dame gate, opened in the steeple of the Church. Notice the Virgin and child in a niche above, then the Harrow and the leaves of wood in very good state of conservation. Immediately on your left, in the direction of the door of Navarre where you access to the coastal path. Continue until the door scallops, then back down to the lower town by the street of the Citadel. On your right, the Prison, said of the bishops, and then, at number 32, notice the Arcanzola House, and at number 7, the House Larrabure (showroom). Finally you reach the Church of the assumption of the Virgin that you can visit if you haven't already done. A very nice ride. Classified Historical Monuments by order dated January 22, 1963.
