Paroisse de St Jean de Luz, Saint-Jean-de-Luz
Categories: Sacred & Religious Sites, Tourist Spots
Though appearing simple from the outside, Paroisse de St Jean de Luz features a gilded wooden altarpiece that's so intricately carved, it's been declared a historic monument in its own right. King Louis XIV also married the Infanta Maria Theresa of Spain here, making the church a national historic monument, too. Wander through the church, parts of which date back to the 15th century, to see the many carvings. The altarpiece alone includes statues of 18 saints and representations of the Holy Spirit and God. With our international travel planner, Saint-Jean-de-Luz attractions like Paroisse de St Jean de Luz can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.
