Maison Louis XIV, Saint-Jean-de-Luz

(3.6/5 based on 110+ reviews on the web)
See where the Sun King awaited his bride at Maison Louis XIV. While it wasn't actually the king's house, it was where Louis XIV stayed in 1660 while waiting for the Infanta Maria Theresa to arrive from Spain. Still owned by the same family who built it, the house is open to the public and features an extensive collection of art and artifacts from the 17th century. Note that tour guides may speak limited English, but an English text supplements the visit. • Located in the Center, near the port, it was built in 1643, Louis XIII stone and beautiful paintings of the 2nd beam in the living room, it is intimately related to the marriage of Louis XIV with Maria Theresa of Austria, Infanta of Spain, very nice building, nice view of the turrets and the façade. Interesting, we don't have not visited her, from the outside.

  • This imposing House, built in 1643 by the wealthy shipowner Joannis de Lohobiague, was put at the disposal of the young King Louis XIV, who, on the occasion of the signing of the Treaty of the Pyrenees and his marriage, stayed there from May 8 to June 16, 1660. The mansion is a quadrilateral at three levels: the floor from the street, the piano nobile (the only one to be visited) and upstairs attic. It is confined to two turrets on the South side, and two turrets framing the main façade, on the north side. The most important pieces are located on the noble floor: dining room to the panelling painted various scenes and ornaments to the Berain (late 17th - early 18th century); the kitchen, with its fireplace, his garden and his old pewter; the large room with the bed used by Louis XIV; the large lounge, with the early release of its ceiling painted. very nice furniture, many paintings and precious objects gathered by generations of the same family that occupies it since its construction in the middle of the 17th century. This even sumptuous remains will host in January 1701 Philip V of Spain, grandson of the King of France. Classified historical monument by Decree of 13 May 2005.

  • The restoration is correct, the advantage is that they have a scrape. Of course, they offer fish dishes. A correct map of the wines, prices are a bit high compared to the value equation. Impeccable service

  • No information given. We came on Monday, October 3 to visit the House at 5 pm. We were waiting at 5 pm, we made out unceremoniously by a very rude woman who claimed receive a "big group" that no information had been noted. I find outrageous behavior, especially when people come from far away to visit that place. A poster don't eat bread.

  • Don't go with the children. It is frankly long and not very interesting. Some stories funny but nothing more.

  • A very beautiful House that deserves to be visited! The guide was very interesting when visiting! The parts in which lived the Sun King are very beautiful and authentic (furniture and decoration of time in superb condition, amazing)!
